'Meanwhile, back at the ranch'
The plots in old western movies and TV programs were not difficult to follow. Though scenes and characters changed; the themes rarely did. In many stories, hard working people struggled to survive on farms and ranches. Outlaws spent a good deal of their time carousing and brawling in saloons.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch farmers rose before dawn and worked from can-to-can't.
"Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches. The son who gathers during summer is prudent; the son who sleeps during harvest is disgraceful (Proverbs 10:4-5 HCS)."
Meanwhile, back at the ranch farmers depended on the good LORD.
"You visit the earth and water it abundantly,
enriching it greatly.
God's stream is filled with water,
for You prepare the earth in this way,
providing people with grain.
You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.
You crown the year with Your goodness;
Your ways overflow with plenty.
The wilderness pastures overflow,
and the hills are robed with joy.
The pastures are clothed with flocks
and the valleys covered with grain.
They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing (Psalm 65:9-13 HCS)."
Meanwhile, back at the ranch People praised the LORD and slept with peace of mind.
"When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant (Proverbs 3:24 HCS)."
