The child Jesus

Luke 2:40-50 "And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought you sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that you sought me? wist you not that I must be about my Father's business? And they understood not the saying which he spoke unto them."

From a very small child, Jesus was filled with wisdom. He was not an ordinary child. At twelve years of age he was already asking questions of the doctors of the law, and all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. Today we live in a spiritual environment where the average church attendee knows very little about the Bible. They are unable to carry on any deep spiritual conversations about the Bible. Jesus was only twelve years old when he brought amazement to the ears of all his hearers. Jesus was God, but he also was man. The very fact that he sought out the doctors of the law at the temple shows us that he had a deep interest in God's Word. Jesus later commanded his disciples to hunger and thirst after righteousness. Let me ask you a question? What do you hunger and thirst after? Everyone hungers and thirsts after something. For most people it is for natural things. People hunger and thirst after politics, money, fame, acceptance, entertainment, news, sports, hobbies, pets, causes, education, and many more things as well. We can look at this another way too. All subjects are like a coin which has two sides to it. To better understand what you hunger and thirst after, What are you already full of? What do you love to talk about? Some people love to talk about sports, their children, politics, the weather, current events, and many other things. Some people are full of junk, hatred, lust, obscene stories and jokes, profanity, etc. So think about what your hunger and thirst is for. Be honest with yourself. Begin to change by hungering and thirsting after the teachings of Jesus Christ.

This portion of scripture also tells us that the grace of God was upon Jesus, even as a small child. John tells us that grace came by Jesus Christ. Many teachers today would have us to think that grace came by the Apostle Paul. My Bible tells me that grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. I think that today people have changed the meanings of words to where they mean something different than what the Bible meant. The Bible's definition of grace came by Jesus Christ. Everything that Jesus both said and did was the grace of God. He certainly showed great grace and forgiveness to multitudes of people while he walked on this earth. He healed the sick, cast out devils, opened blind eyes, raised the dead, multiplied loaves and fishes to feed hungry people. All of this was the grace of God. The sermon on the mount and Jesus commanding to obey the ten commandments was also the grace of God. This is an incomplete look at what the Bible defines grace as being. If you really want to understand what God's grace is then look at Jesus. Look at everything that Jesus both said and did, and you will know what grace is. Do you want God's grace upon your life? Then look at Jesus and go and do likewise. Then grace will abide upon your life in great abundance.
