LEN'S LINES -- A Little Religion On A Positive Note by Len Granger

Always Say A Prayer

The Bible Gods Word is filled with prayers for all our needs and tells us to praise the Lord for the blessing He showers on us. The Old Testament has the Psalms and the Lord's Prayer. as we also read over ninety prose type prayers where men address God directly to meet their needs. Prayers in the Hebrew Bible blend elements of praise and petition to God and are often lengthy and formal confessions of sin.

In the New Testament , our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ often prays to His Father and from the Lips of the Lord his disciples learned the importance of prayer. Even when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, our Lord prayed as we read in Luke 3:21 and 22, " Now when all the people were baptized. it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased."

We read in the Book Of Acts where Luke recorded the practices of the early church as spoken by Apostle Peter. Acts 2:42, " And they continued steadfastly in the Apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." The New Testament written by the followers of our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, also say prayer is very important like what we read in other parts of the Bible. The Christian life has an emphasis on prayer, the most powerful tool the Lord gave us to commune with and know the will God.

We are told to always pray only to Jesus Christ as he tells his Disciples in John 15:16, " Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain that whatsoever ye ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. Our Lord also adds in John 14:13, " And whatsoever ye ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

Let us remember to always ask the Lord in prayer for His guidance and protection as we face the trials and temptations in our earthly life. Our daily praise for the many blessings we receive from God is as important as our requests for our needs. The Lord wants us to keep prayer on our lips and give thanks as we read in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and 18. " Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you,

Trust this Sunday we will be in the church of our choice worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and praising Him for all our blessings.
