The Blood of Jesus #1

We don't hear too much about the blood of Jesus now days. Yet without the shedding of his blood, no one could be saved. It is ONLY through the shedding of blood that sin can be forgiven. The righteousness and justice of God require that blood be shed for sins and transgressions.

In the Old Testament God was satisfied with the shedding of the blood of animals, to cover the sins of his people. The blood of animals was only a covering and could never fully forgive those transgressions. It was a covering until the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world, would come to shed his blood, to forever forgive sins and transgressions.

Exodus 12:3-14 "Speak unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take unto them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for a house. And if the household be too little for a lamb, let him and his neighbor next unto his house take it according to the number of souls: every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: you shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And you shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, neither soddened at all with water; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And you shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remains of it until the morning you shall burn with fire. And thus shall you eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord's passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgement: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt."

The passover was made with the sacrifice of a lamb, without spot or blemish, for every man, woman, and child. Without the blood of the sacrificial lamb, plague and destruction would come. Jesus would one day come and John the Baptist would testify, "Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world."Jesus was crucified on the passover of his thirty-third year. His body was broken and destroyed, and his blood was poured out. This was done to heal and save everyone who would believe on him for the forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 26:26-28 ""And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink all of it; for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."

The passover bread is broken and represents the broken body of Jesus. The passover wine is drunk and represents the blood of Jesus. So when you take communion, your are symbolically eating the flesh of Jesus, and you are drinking his blood. Without the body and blood of Jesus being sacrificed for you, there would be no forgiveness of sins, and you would die and go to hell. So the subject of the blood of Jesus is a very important one.

Luke 22:41-44 "And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, saying, Father, if you be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but your will be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling unto the ground."

Jesus began to shed his blood there in the garden. He was submitting his will to the Father, in preparation for his crucifixion. Can you imagine even a little of the anguish and sorrow that he felt? He had full knowledge of the torture and the painful death that awaited him. He also knew that the sins of all the world would be laid upon him, and the wrath of God would be poured out on him. Can you also imagine what it would have been like, knowing from early childhood the torture and agony that waited you in your thirty-third year? Jesus wasn't excited and joyful about it. I know this because he shed the great drops of blood here in the garden. Jesus bore that burden his entire life. Jesus wasn't a carefree and happy soul during his lifetime. He told his disciples, "Woe unto you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep." Jesus never taught or commanded anything that he himself didn't also practise. So Jesus actually began bearing this burden from early childhood, when the knowledge of what would befall him, on the passover of his thirty third year was revealed to him.

John 6:53-57 "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoso eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, dwells in me, and I in him. As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eats me, even he shall live by me."

Now these words make more sense. They are symbolic of Jesus being the sacrificial passover lamb. The flesh of the lamb had to be eaten. Jesus did not speak this of eating his flesh and drinking his blood literally. Rather, Jesus is the word of God. Those who constantly through meditation eat the word of God, shall live. The life is in the blood. So to drink his blood is symbolic of giving life to the word in you. This represents being a doer and practitioner of the word of God. It is never enough to just study or read God's word. We must obey the word by doing it.

John 19:32-34 "Then came the soldiers and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they broke not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water."

After the death of Jesus, the blood gathered in his abdomen. He had been dead already for awhile, for the red corpuscles had already separated from the water in his blood. When the soldier pierced his side, it appeared to John that water and blood came forth. It actually was all blood. After death the red corpuscles and water separate. So when the soldier pierced the side of jesus, he bled dry. All of his blood was emptied out. Every drop of Jesus' blood was shed to pay for the sins of the world. Halleluiah! If this had not occurred, then all of us would be doomed to spend eternity, in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone. Blood must be shed for the forgiveness of sins. So either receive the sacrifice of Jesus Christ or be doomed. My greatest desire is that everyone who reads this, places their faith in the sacrifice of Jesus and his shed blood.
