Living Stones

Stones have frequently been used in the building of low walls along the sides of residential streets. They are not only functional but pleasing to the eye as well.

Let me share a personal story

My Dad had an eccentric friend named Oliver.

He often turned to my Dad in search of a handout. Oliver had a real knack for showing up at our house just in time for Mom's Sunday dinners.

I admit that his unkempt appearance was a turn off but Dad did not turn away his friend.

Instead of belittling him, Dad boasted of Oliver's ability to build stone walls and drove us past some of his work. I wonder if those walls are still standing in the Syracuse area today.

We are living stones, serving the Rock and standing upon the promises of God.

"Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,

'Behold, I lay in Zion
A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,
And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame (1 Peter 2:4-6 NKJV)."
