Chapter 1 ... 3 Reasons Why People Give Up
Chapter 2 ... 10 Reasons Why You Must Never Give Up.

Chapter 1

3 reasons Why People Give Up.
1. Natural influence
"And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way" (Numbers 21:4, King James Version).
As the people travelled, the circumstances or situation of things discouraged them. In the journey of life, don't allow yourself to be discouraged by the nation's economy or politics, joblessness, homelessness, poverty, debt, delayed marriage, divorce, childlessness, loss of property, loss of a loved one, unfruitful ministry, unfulfilled dream, unwanted pregnancy, rejection, hunger, terminal disease, comparing and measuring yourself by others, and so on.

2. Human influence
The Israelites admitted, "Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there" (Deut 1:28, King James Version).
The Israelites said that their own brethren or brothers discouraged their heart. So they played with their own destiny!
As God has positioned some people in your life to encourage you into your destiny by their right words and action, so the devil has placed on your path discouragers to talk and knock you out of your destiny by their wrong words and action! But the devil is a big liar.
Run away fast from those discouragers and wreckers of destiny or else you will regret at last.
How may I forget my so-called friend whom I shared my investment plan with years ago. Right there, he discouraged me. So, I left his house 'empty.' But that night or shortly afterwards, I dreamt of leaving my shoes in the vicinity where he lives. Don't dropped your shoes of destiny designed to take you to places with anyone!
3. Demonic influence
Jesus declares, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10, New International Version).
Just as there is a spirit of fear, so is there a spirit of discouragement. This foul spirit drives people to lose courage and hope, hence give up.
It may even make some take their own life.
In the 1990's, I was in my second year in the university when emotional crisis came into my life. I shook me to my very foundation. My third year was hell on earth!
Eventually, I took a leave of absence from school without any hope of ever returning to complete my studies. Friend, to say the truth, those were the hardest times of my life, yet the most blessed times; the toughest days of my journey on earth, yet the greatest period of learning the Bible by studying and experience!
You talk about terrible mental torments or disturbances and unimaginable emotional disorders, I have been there.
The presence of Satan became so real and strong around me, while God's presence seemed so weak. When morning came, I would long for night; and by the time night arrived, I would desire the arrival of morning.
I remember a time on campus that I began to fast because of my strange condition, but I could not even pray for it appeared as if my heart had been padlocked.
In the midst of this confusion, a word came up in my spirit, "ENDURE." I fasted and prayed. I studied and confessed the scriptures.
On a particular day, a thought crossed my mind to take my own life and end all the nightmares. So I went to the kitchen, took a knife to the living room. But by the mercy of God, I did not stab myself.
Looking back today, I thank God that I passed through that wilderness of hopelessness and frustration. That was my advanced bible school, my university of tears or my college of hard knocks! [Read my book: "Healing of Crushed Emotions and Disturbed Minds."]

Chapter 2

10 reasons Why You Must Never Give Up.
1. God loves you.
Paul revealed, "So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didnt hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldnt gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of Gods chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for uswho was raised to life for us!is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us.
Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christs love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. Im absolutely convinced that nothing nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkableabsolutely nothing can get between us and Gods love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us" (Romans 8:31-39, The Message Bible).
If you really understand how much God loves you, you will not give up because he has not given up on you! Jesus died that you may live. He became poor that you might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9).
And to become rich, there are biblical principles. [Read my book: "12 Right Keys to Godly Financial and Material Prosperity" and watch out for my coming-out-soon book: SCHOOL OF FINANCE].
My life changed after reading "MONEY WON'T MAKE YOU RICH" by Pastor Sunday Adelaja, that God used to open my eyes to the laws of money and investment side of prosperity which the good books I had read on prosperity over the years did not teach me. Though I don't agree with all the teachings of Pastor Adelaja because we need more balance and more focus on heaven, yet it's one of my treasured books.
Friend, God loves you and wants the very best for you spiritually, emotionally, mentally, bodily, maritally, vocationally, financially, materially, ministerially, and so on.
2. He has a good plan for you.
God says, "I know what Im doing. I have it all planned out plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for" (Jer 29:11, The Message Bible).
Don't give up on yourself when God hasn't. You are not an abandoned project; you are a project in progress. You will need to be very patient because neither Canaan was possessed in a day nor Rome was built in a day!
The pastor of the largest church in the world confessed that in the early stage of his ministry, nobody was coming to listen to his sermons. At a time, he couldn't even get any sermon out of the Bible again. So he became convinced that God had not called into the ministry. Surprisingly, within a year, he had picked his things up to eight times to quit the ministry, but each time God intervene!
Friend, I don't know what you are going through now. Please don't look at the present discouraging conditions, but keep looking unto Jesus and concentrating on the future plan He has set before you (Heb 12:2, Philippians 3:13-14).

3. He cares for you.
"Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you" (1 Pet 5:7, The Living Bible).
Philips translation puts it as, "You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon him, for you are his personal concern."
The Amplified Bible renders it thus: " casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]."
Think about it: God is always thinking about you! He is concerned about your concerns. He did not create us to carry burdens of anxieties or worries because it's a sign of lack of trust in him, which is a sin (Romans 14:23). Also they can destroy and kill us.
It's a pity that some folks forget about God and His purpose or assignment for them because of the cares of this world, when God has promised never to forget us - never to leave us nor forsake us (see Hebrews 13:5-6)!

The Scripture reveals, 'But Zion said, I dont get it. GOD has left me. My Master has forgotten I even exist. Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, Id never forget younever. Look, Ive written your names on the backs of my hands. The walls youre rebuilding are never out of my sight.
Your builders are faster than your wreckers. The demolition crews are gone for good. Look up, look around, look well! See them all gathering, coming to you?...' (Isa 49:14-18, The Message Bible).
I remember what I read years ago. It was a vision or analogy. A man was walking with God. So, footsteps of 2 people were seen. But suddenly, only the footsteps of one person were seen. He must have thought God had forsaken him. Then the Lord explained that probably when things became rough or tough, He had to carry him. And that was when the man saw the footsteps of only one person (see Isaiah 40:11; 46:4).

4. He can do all things.
Jesus looked straight at them and said, There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything (Mat 19:26, Contemporary English Version).
God declares: Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is there anything too difficult for Me? (Jer 32:27, The Amplified Bible).
A poor man was brought to our church service some time ago. He was doing bus conductor for his brother. A young guest prophet was ministering, when he called out this man. He asked him about 3 times if he would be faithful (to God).
He said yes. So he prayed for him saying something was coming his way. By the following month, God gave him land and he built a structure on it. His story changed suddenly. He moved from poverty to riches within few weeks!
But sadly, he was unfaithful to God because he virtually disappeared from church.
You see, God can turn your life around in one second. Yes, he can do all things, but he will not do all things.
Between God's promises and their fulfilment, there is a process! And that process will refine and reshape your character because God is more interested in your character than your comfort!
In fact, the gift (calling or talent) of a man makes room for him, opens doors for him, and brings him before great people; but it's the character of a man that keeps the doors open and retains him in the presence of great people (see Proverbs 18:16)! Ask Samson and Gehazi!
5. He will make a way for you.
The LORD says, "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert" (Isaiah 43:18-19, King James Version).
This reminds me of when the israelites seemed stranded in the arena of life. In front of them was the deadly Red Sea. Behind them was Pharaoh and his merciless army. To their left and right were absolutely no way of escape.
But as they obeyed God's instructions, the deadly Red Sea 'became' friendly dry land. The impassable route became passable road. The impossible with men became possible with God.
Interestingly, Don Moen sang,
God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way ...

By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and Earth will fade but His Word will still remain
And He will do something new today ...
A relation of mine went to a polytechnic here in Nigeria for her Ordinary National Diploma (OND).Then proceeded for her industrial training (IT) in a federal mortgage bank.
After the IT, she wanted to further her studies on part time while still working in the bank but no way!
She fasted and prayed, but nothing seemed to be happening. The devil asked her, "Do you think God really care for you?"
Some of her mates had gone ahead of her. She was just struggling to go forward.
You see, God's way and thoughts are not ours because He has a totally different, bigger and better plan!
I had a prophetic dream about her, in which he had 8 cars. Then when I woke up, the Lord gave me the meaning of the dream: PROMOTION!
Before long, God relocated to the USA. And eventually, she went to a good university in the states. She is now a citizen as well.
Interestingly, her husband became a car dealer importing them into Nigeria. He is also a realtor and real estate investor. They also have a diaper company. She runs her own establishment, too.

6. Life is in seasons: wilderness before promised land.
Solomon wrote: "There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time...
God gave us the ability to think about his world, but we can never completely understand everything he does. And yet, he does everything at just the right time (Eccl 3:1, Easy-to-Read Version).

The Amplified Bible renders it as: "There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and
a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven (vs 1).
He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end (vs 11).
One of the leading pastors in Nigeria had church growth challenges in the early years. So he went to his mentor for help because the church refused to grow no matter how much effort he put in.
His wise mentor advised, "Church growth is a seasonal thing. Just keep doing what you are doing."
Truly, the boom came when his season came because he was doing the right things so to speak.
The Psalmist admitted, "... At night we may cry, but when morning comes we will celebrate" (Ps 30:5, Contemporary English Version).

7. Winners never quit; quitters never win.
The Scripture warns, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart (Hebrews 12:1-3, New International Version).
Robert Schuller noted, "Tough times never last, but tough people do!"
A one-time sports champion admitted: "I hated every minute of the training, but I said to myself, don't quit, suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."
Are you planning to kill yourself because you failed an exam one or more times? Or because you cannot get a nice job or you have no child after 2 or 20 years of marriage?
Once there is life, there is hope for a living dog is better than a dead lion just as a living poor man is better than a dead rich man [Ecclesiastes 9:4].
Bobs Brown wrote that behind EVERY successful man there is a lot of unsuccessful years. But, I personally believe that it should be reframed as behind MOST successful men there is a lot of unsuccessful years.
The man who said that failure is often the first necessary steps towards success is right because I have been there.
Thank God I did not make my English language papers at a sitting or else I might not have got the wonderful training I received.
Personally, I wrote JAMB's UME three times and SSCE/GCE twice [once each] in my life before I could enter the university. By then, some of my secondary school classmates, juniors and seniors were ahead of me, some were at my level and some others probably behind me!
More than that, l spent some extra time in the university because I could not graduate on time. In fact, my course mate had become a lecturer in our department and was probably doing his master's degree while I was still struggling to process my graduation. I went to him for assistance and he drove me in his car. I must have visited his office, too.
There I was, I did not have a bicycle. But my trust and hope were in God.
Today, God has been restoring those seemingly wasted years of mine!
Duru Daniel said, "Show me a great man and I will show you his challenges."
When you are in charge of a hard situation, it is only a challenge; but when it is controlling you, then it is a problem.
When God sent the 12 spies to explore Caanan, 10 of them saw it as a problem to stop them, but 2 saw it as a challenge to be overcome (Numbers 12-14).
No wonder Winston Churchill said, "Men of bad attitudes see difficulty in every opportunity while men of good attitude see opportunity in every difficulty."
Job said, There is always hope for a tree. If it is cut down, it can grow again. It will keep sending out new branches. Its roots might grow old in the ground and its stump die in the dirt, but with water, it will grow again. It will grow branches like a new plant" (Job 14:7-9, Easy-to-Read Version).
Don't lose hope. Your redeemer is alive. If a tree has hope, you and I have better hope in Christ.
Somebody warned: "Don't give up, the last key may be the one that will open the door."
Perseverance is a necessity in the journey of success.
Charles Spurgeon noted: "By perseverance, the snail reached the ark [of Noah]."
I say today, "Don't give up until you are up the ladder [of success]."
So keep looking unto Jesus who refused to give up in spite of the cross of death because he focused on the hope ahead of him.
I once received a prophetic warning or instruction saying: "Concentrate on the future" (see Philippians 3:13-14).

8. ALL THINGS ARE WORKING TOGETHER FOR YOUR GOOD IF YOU LOVE GOD AND YOU ARE WALKING IN HIS PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE.
Paul encouraged us, "And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans" (Romans 8:28, The Living Bible).
You see, our God works in wonderful ways we may not always understand! Imagine the true story of someone whose pastor prayed for, and next thing was that on getting to work, he got a sack letter instead of the car loan or promotion letter or so that he was expecting. So he left, but comforted himself with this song: "Jesus is the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is to follow ..."
By the time he got back to his pastor and told him the 'sad' news, he just started laughing because he knew it was of the Lord.
For that man to move to his next level, he had to lose that low job because God had something bigger and better for him.
So God gave him the work for his next level. Some disappointments are blessings in disguise.

Paul also revealed, "Not that I speak from [any personal] need, for I have learned to be content [and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy] regardless of my circumstances. I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need. I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purposeI am self-sufficient in Christs
sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace" (Philippians 4:11-13, The Amplified Bible).
As long as you love God and walk in His purpose for your life, God is working out in your favour every good thing and every bad thing that ever happened to you!
Jesus said: "It shall turn out unto you for a testimony" (Luke 21:13, American Standard Version).

9. TEST OF FAITH COMES BEFORE TESTIMONY OF FAITH.
James exhorted, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" James 1:2-4, New International Version).

The Message Bible renders this scripture thus: "Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So dont try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well developed, not deficient in any way."
In the midst of his hard times, Job confessed his faith in God: "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him ... If a man dies, can he come
back to life? But I will wait for better times, wait till this time of trouble is ended" (Job 13:15, King James Version, 14:14, Good News Translation).
When you don't know what to do, just trust in God. He never fails. Whenever he is testing your faith as in the case of Abraham or Job, everything around you may look odd and contrary to his promise for your life, but just TRUST HIM.
Always remember: Proverbs 3:5-7, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord , and depart from evil" (King James Version).
In the midst of adversity, you should be able to say with Job, a man of faith and patience: "Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold" (Job 23:10, Holman Christian Standard Bible).
Let the testing of your faith make you mature, responsible, stable and complete!

10. SO THAT YOU WILL NOT DISAPPOINT HEAVEN, YOURSELF AND PEOPLE ATTACHED TO YOUR DESTINY.
Paul wrote, "Therefore I [am ready to] persevere and stand my ground with patience and endure everything for the sake of the elect [Gods chosen], so that they too may obtain [the] salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with [the reward of] eternal glory" (The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition).
If Jesus had given up his assignment of going to the cross, where will you and I be today? What if Paul and other servants of God had refused to write the new testament books? Ezekiel 33 reveals that some people will go to hell if we refuse to obey God and do what he wants us to do, but if they refuse to listen to us when we warn them, then we are free!
If Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Kumuyi, Evangelist Bonnke, Evangelist Benny Hinn, and so on should give up and close down their ministries today, when will happen to millions of souls attached to their ministries?
I know some will stand while others will fall away! But God will continue to strengthen them and us, that we shall never give up our destiny and the hope of heaven in Jesus' name.
Lastly, if you give up in the day of adversity, you disappoint yourself for the enemy can easily rob, kill or destroy you because if you faint in the day of adversity, the scripture says that your strength is small (see Proverbs 24:10, John 10:10).

Endnote:
Paul wrote, "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable" (1 Corinthians 15:19, King James Version).
So if you are not yet born again, say this out loud:

SINNERS CONFESSION
If you are not yet born-again, say this:
I choose to repent today. Also I choose to believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose up for my justification.
The Scripture says, If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom 10:9).
Therefore, I believe in Jesus in my heart and confess Him as my Lord. Now I am born-again (Amen).
SAY THIS ALOUD TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
Also Jesus said, But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses (Acts 1:8).
And on the day of Pentecost All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4).
Therefore, I receive the Holy Spirit by faith right now and I begin to speak in an unknown tongue (unlearned tongue) as He gives me the utterance.
I command every foul spirit [spirit of fear, spirit of unbelief, spirit of doubt, religious spirit, unforgiving spirit] wanting to hinder me to stop in its evil operation in my life in Jesus name.
Thank you God for filling me with your Spirit in Jesus name (Amen).
