Calamity Job

Cause and effect…

Frequently, bad things do happen to good people.

“But as for me, I would seek God,
And I would place my cause before God;
Who does great and unsearchable things,
Wonders without number (Job 5:8-9 NASB).”

The friends of Job did not know the true cause of Job’s calamity; yet, this advice is wise.

They did not discern the truth. His trials were not a result of God’s chastising.

Calamity could have crushed Job. Hear his first reaction…

“Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped.  He said,

‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.’

Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God (Job 1:20-22 NASB).”

As sovereign, God granted Satan permission to test Job. As just, the LORD vindicated him.

“… and My servant Job will pray for you. For I will accept him so that I may not do with you according to your folly, because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.’ Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job.

The Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold (Job 42:8b-10 NASB).”
