Leave the Light On
by PamFord Davis
2/28/2017 / Devotionals
Are you afraid of the dark?
My husband and I have a habit of leaving a light on during the night. Neither of us likes sleeping in total darkness; there is logic in seeing where we’re going when we get up to go to the bathroom. We just feel safer in the light.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105 KJV).”
Maybe you’ve seen tennis shoes that light up with each step… Some of the infants and toddlers in Christian childcare wore them in my class. My first reaction was fascination; I must admit the newness quickly diminished.
Though old in chronological time, God’s message is new each time that he sheds his bright light upon my path. It reminds me of the use of vehicle headlight’s low and high beams. There are times when I need (and activate) high beams to increase my visibility of what is ahead.
I need to know where I’m going; in addition, I want more light to alert me to any dangers that may lie ahead.
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he (Proverbs 29:18 KJV).”
God’s word not only lights my feet and path; it reveals the true light.
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12 KJV).”
