A LESSON FROM SEASON FILMS AND SOAP OPERAS

Prison break, 24, Gray’s Anatomy, Tinsel and more recently, Jenifa’s Diary, are some of the supra-long movie masterpieces that have influenced our world in the last decade and a half. The secret to the success of these films and their like lies in their ability to intrigue and keep the suspense of the viewer every now and then. Every episode or season has got something new; so, the viewer just remains glued. The more he watches, the more he wants to. Amazingly, the producers seem to have an inexhaustible pool of intertwining storylines. The plot seems unending. So excellent are these pieces that you can’t deny the talent, skill and genius of the writers.
But, a thought races through my mind: ‘how about the bestower of such endowment?’ The creator himself must possess a transcendent version of these abilities, for it is from his abundance that man has received a microscopic fraction. It is no wonder therefore that His ways are past finding out; but, he shows us glimpse by glimpse as we come day by day. His knowledge is eternally infinite; but He gives us bit by bit as we approach Him daily. Above all, His mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness never fades. So the Isokos1 and Urhobos2 call Him ‘Oghene’ which when properly broken down means: ‘he is full of new wonders, he is multidimensional; you turn this way, you see something about Him; you turn the other way, He shows you another novel stuff.’
But come to think of it, we have learnt how to long for season films but haven’t learnt how to thirst for the eternal Father. Unknown to many of us, the secret of a refreshing, renewing and consistent walk with God is to desire Him afresh every morning; for He will bring us day by day into new things and realities. It’s high time we embarked on a paradigm shift from being hit-and-run seekers to daily, insatiable, desirous seekers who just wants more. Our prayer and song every moment should be like that of Sinach: ‘the more I know you, the more I want to know you.’ One thing is undeniable; He won’t restrain Himself from us!
