GOD-TRACKING IS THANKING GOD FOR TOMORROW’S NEEDS MET, TODAY

Philippians 4:6
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God

It is written in God’s Word that God desires to meet our needs and grant us the desires of our hearts. On several occasions Jesus tells us to ask in his name and we will receive. Prayer is simply talking to God - talking to him about our needs. Writing to the Philippians, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, Paul says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” It’s a great privilege to be permitted to pray to God in Jesus’ name, requesting that he meet our needs. However, the key word here is, thanksgiving.

With deep reverence, I think prayer is a bit like ordering a meal in a restaurant. You sit down at the table where you are presented with a menu. The menu contains a list of items you can order for your meal. It is your authority to make a request of the waiter. If you’re like me you’d meditate on the menu for some time before deciding what you want. Then, when the waiter returns to your table you make your request according to what is written. “I’ll have a pepperoni pizza with a salad on the side,” you tell the waiter, who notes your request. Then, immediately after you place your order you say, “Thank you.” You have made your request according to what was written, with thanksgiving.

At this point the waiter toddles off to the kitchen to process your request. Now, in some restaurants you may need to wait a long time for the meal to arrive, in others it may come very quickly. The truth be told, you have no idea when that pizza will arrive. Indeed, it could take 10 minutes, 30 minutes or 45 minutes to arrive, but, since you had faith in both the waiter and the kitchen, you placed your order with thanksgiving, believing that you would receive that for which you asked. When the waiter finally returns and places that steaming aromatic pepperoni in front of you, once again you say, “Thank you.”

I have learnt to thank God for my needs. No longer do I perpetually ask the Lord in prayer, I now thank God in prayer for the answer to my request, even before the answer occurs. We have three reasons to be thankful when making our requests to God by prayer and supplication: 1) thankful that he is willing to hear my request, 2) thankful that he has the power to meet my needs and 3) thankful that he has answered my prayer even before I receive the answer. God is beyond the limit of space and time; he encompasses space and time! Therefore, he is there already at the point where your need is met, the moment you prayed. All that is required is for you to wait for time to catch up with the answers to your prayers. So, pray with thanksgiving, in the present, that your needs are already met, in the future.

You are already there with the answers to my prayers

“Dear God, thank you that you hear my prayers. Thank you that you have the power to meet my needs. I choose not to worry about my needs and pray according to what is written in your Word, with thanksgiving, that you will meet all my needs according to your riches in Jesus. I believe that you are already on the other side of this wall that I face. You are already there with the answers to my prayers. In faith, I place myself in your hands and wait patiently for my needs to be met. Thank you for answering my prayers. Amen.”
