Right Stewardship-Pathway To Greatness

by Ngozi Nwoke

Are you a steward of the mysteries of God? Is your service right and acceptable before God? God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6) and one of His rewards is greatness (Genesis 12:1-3). This article is aimed at ensuring that your service unto God leads to greatness in life.

The Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards that one found faithful - I Corinthians 4:1-2 (NKJV).

For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money - Titus 1:7 NKJV.

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God - I Peter 4:10 NKJV.

It is one thing to be involved in service activities, and another thing for your service to be acceptable before God. For God to make you great, your stewardship must be up to His standard. As a believing Christian, you are to be considered as a steward of the mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 4:1). An understanding of who a steward is will enable you to examine your performance as a steward.

A steward is said to be a person who manages properties or some other things for another person.

And for God, we are managing His mysteries. For example, we are to manage the manifold grace of God - 1 Peter 4:10. How well have you managed the grace of God on your life to serve Him in whatever capacity He has positioned you?

Greatness is God's desire for you. He is a great God and does great things, and so rewarding you with greatness is not an issue with Him. The question is, "Are you qualified to be made great by God?"

Qualities of a steward

  • Faithfulness - 1 Corinthians 4:2

It is required of a steward that he be found faithful. God expects faithfulness from you as you manage the grace of God on you.

  • Wisdom - Luke 12:42

A steward should be wise in carrying out his or her divine assignment. Wisdom is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7) and so should be greatly employed in your service to God.

  • Blameless - Titus 1:7-9

A steward should be blameless in executing his or her assignment and in other areas of his or her life. His or her thoughts, words and actions should meet up with Philippians 4:8 standard.

Qualification for greatness

Now, for your stewardship to qualify you for greatness:

1. Your service must be unto the Lord and not to man (Colossians 3:23)

2. It must be acceptable unto God (Romans 12:2, Leviticus 22:20)

Paul is a good example of a person who climbed to greatness through stewardship. In Acts 26:15-20, Paul was enlisted as a steward of God's mysteries and in 1 Corinthians 15:9-10, he gave an account of how he managed the grace of God upon him that enabled him to achieve right stewardship. Paul, though was a persecutor of Christ, having received Christ proved himself a worthy steward. He had the privilege of writing most of the books of the New Testament.

Christ is the ultimate example. He was very faithful to God the Father, who appointed Him (Hebrews 3:1-2) that God gave Him a name above all names, which every knee bows down to (Philippians 2:5-11). He was greatly lifted up by God because His stewardship was right and acceptable unto the Lord.

In conclusion, if you desire greatness in life, then you need to be of the same mind with Christ (Philippians 2:5) and make your stewardship worthy of greatness.
