------------------------------------------------------------
Scriptures On-Screen:
"Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people."
Isaiah 55:4
"There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright,
and one that feared God, and eschewed evil." Job 1:1

On-Screen: As the Narrator speaks, the words appear on the screen.
------------------------------------------------------------

ACTS 1 "You shall receive power"

NARRATOR
Praise The Lord!
The meaning of Uz (spelled "uz") is "counsel; words."
Jesus is our Counsellor. He is The Word of God, made flesh.
Jesus said "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth
nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in human history.
Here is the good news: The Passion of Jesus--that familiar Easter story--was just the beginning!

Here is the question we must ask ourselves today:
How do I apply that good news --the "gospel"- -to my life?
The disciples of Jesus "acted on" what they heard and believed...
which is why in the Bible it's called the Book of Acts. They acted on it!

In "Acts 1" in our play today, we find Dorothy, the niece of one of the
women who is a disciple of Jesus, Auntie Em and her husband Uncle Henry.

ACTS 1 SCENE 1

[Someone holds up a sign that reads ACTS 1]

------------------------------------------------------------
Narrator leaves stage, Uncle Henry and Auntie Em walk on stage.

Sound Effects: farm animals (chickens and chicks) in the background
Lighting: No Color.
Uncle Henry and Auntie Em are mid-stage, one on each side of
a square wooden table, talking. On the table is a wooden box,
and Auntie Em and Uncle Henry are counting chicks.
On the stage for a background is the front of a barn for
and a white picket fence, off to the side, for a 3 dimension effect.

At the center of the gym, Dorothy looks down at Toto
--speaks to him--then runs down from the middle of the aisle toward he stage.
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
She isn't coming yet, Toto. Did she hurt you? She tried to, didn't she?
Come on --we'll go tell Uncle Henry and Auntie Em.
Come on, Toto.
Auntie Em! Auntie Em!
(running)
Auntie Em!

AUNTIE EM
Fifty-seven, fifty-eight --

DOROTHY
Auntie Em, just listen to what Miss Gulch did to Toto!
She --

AUNTIE EM
Dorothy, please! We're trying to count! Fifty-eight--

DOROTHY
Oh, but Auntie Em, she hit him over the --

UNCLE HENRY
Don't bother us now, honey -- this old incubator's gone bad, and
we're likely to lose a lot of our chicks.

DOROTHY
Oh -- oh, the poor little things. Oh, but Auntie Em, Miss Gulch hit
Toto right over the back with a rake just because she says he
gets in her garden and chases her nasty old cat every day.

AUNTIE EM
Seventy -- Dorothy, please!

DOROTHY
Oh, but he doesn't do it every day just once or twice a week. And
he can't catch her old cat, anyway. And now she says she's gonna get
the sheriff, and --

AUNTIE EM
Dorothy! Dorothy! We're busy!

DOROTHY
Oh -- all right.

------------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy walks off toward the barn, while Auntie Em and
Uncle Henry take chicks out of the box.
------------------------------------------------------------

UNCLE HENRY
Poor little orphan, I know she misses her parents terribly
and her Miss Gulch troubles! You know I've been prayin' for her:
she ought to have somebody to play with.

AUNTIE EM
I know, but we all got to work out our own salvation, Henry.

UNCLE HENRY
Amen!

AUNTIE EM (looking at the chicks)
Oh, I hope we got 'em in time.

UNCLE HENRY
I hope so too.

ACTS 1 SCENE 2

------------------------------------------------------------
Auntie Em and Uncle Henry exit stage.
The Hunk, Zeke and Hickory all walk onto the stage.
Dorothy is in the background, watching and listening.
------------------------------------------------------------

THE HUNK (aka The Scarecrow)
Hey... Hey Hickory... Hey Zeke! What do you brothers think about what happened?

HICKORY (aka The Tin Man)
I felt like I had a heart attack!

ZEKE (aka The Cowardly Lion)
I'm still shaking... I'm still scared

------------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy (with Toto) walks out on to the stage, curious
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Zeke, You're scared? Scared about what?
What happened up there? Please tell me!

HICKORY (aka The Tin Man)
If I had the heart to tell you, I would--

THE HUNK (aka The Scarecrow)
I still want to know too! What do you brothers think?

ZEKE (aka The Cowardly Lion)
Scared, so scared...
------------------------------------------------------------
Uncle Henry and Auntie Em return on stage
------------------------------------------------------------

UNCLE HENRY
Oh.Sweet Dorothy, as you heard. Jesus is alive and appeared to bunches of people.
Some say he appeared to hundreds! Well, just a little while ago, while we were up on that ol'
mountain, he ascended into heaven! We were shocked! I still am-- (shaking his head)

DOROTHY
So He's gone? Jesus is gone? It can't be

------------------------------------------------------------
Sound Effects: rain, soft, in the background
------------------------------------------------------------

AUNTIE EM
Before He went away, he commanded us to wait in Jerusalem together
until the promise of the Father comes! We'll receive power and be
baptized with the Holy Ghost in just a few days. That's where we're going--

DOROTHY
But.where did He go? Where did Jesus go?

UNCLE HENRY
Somewhere, until He returns again some day! It'll be rapturous!

DOROTHY
(sad, shaking her head) Oh.oh no

------------------------------------------------------------
All exit, except Dorothy...and Toto
Lights change / Spotlight on Dorothy
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY [optional]
Lord, I just pray...
When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around
That You would reach out to me and heal my pain
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a heavenly highway to be found
Leading from my window pane
To a place behind the Son
Just a step beyond the rain

We must be somewhere after the rapture!

------------------------------------------------------------
Glinda the Good Angel gracefully walks on stage in a cloud of bubblessome Munchables move
to let her through. Dorothy looks at her, with wide eyes, and grabs Toto.
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Now I -- I know we're not in Kansas anymore.

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Dorothy, fear not: you have been chosen by God for such a time as this. When your
house fell on the Wicked Wretch of the East, it was a miracle from Heaven!
It is a sign to show the inhabitants of the Land of Uz that our God reigns,
that He is merciful, loving and listens to and answers their prayers.

MUNCHABLE #1
We thank you very sweetly for doing it so neatly.

MUNCHABLE #2
You've killed her so completely that we thank you very sweetly.

DOROTHY
(shocked) Me? Why me? Who are they? (points to the Munchables)
Who are you?

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
My name is Glinda the Good Angel, from the sides of the North, the Golden City
of the Great King. I will always be nearby during your journey to help you through.
GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
These are Munchables, (points to some of the Munchables) my friends and some of the
inhabitants of the Wonderful Land of Uz.

You (points at Dorothy) have been chosen to go to the Golden City and seek the counsel
of the Wonderful Witness of Uz. There, you will receive all the answers to all
your questions. He will heal your broken heart and your homesickness.

------------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy sits up, her feet come out from under the covers, revealing she has beautiful ruby red
slippers on. Glinda reaches to help Dorothy out of bed, while helping her up:
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
(looking down at her feet) Oh my!

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Let the joyous news be spread! The Wicked Old Wretch at last is dead!

------------------------------------------------------------
All very joyous, dancing, marching
Some Munchables appear in the Gym aisles too
------------------------------------------------------------

MUNCHABLES (song)

Ding Dong! The Wicked Wretch is dead

Ding Dong! The Wicked Wretch is dead.
Which old Wretch?
The Wicked Wretch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Wretch is dead.
Wake up, you sleepy head.
Rub your eyes
Get out of bed.
Ding Dong the Wicked Wretch is dead!
She's gone where the devils go
Below...Below...Below
Yo -- ho, let's open up and sing
And ring the bells out.
Ding Dong! The merry-oh!
Sing it high
Sing it....
...low
Let them know
The Wicked Wretch is dead!

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
Who killed my sister? Who killed the Wretch of the East?
(speaking to Dorothy) Was it you? Answer me!

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Leave her alone!

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
You stay out of this Glinda! I'm here for vengeance! So it was you, was it?
(pointing at Dorothy) You killed her....Didn't you?

DOROTHY
No -- No! It was an accident! I didn't mean to kill anybody!....
...Really I didn't!

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
Didn't mean it, eh? Accident, eh? Well, my little pretty,
I can cause accidents, too-- and this is how I do it! (reaches for Dorothy)

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Aren't you forgetting

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
The Slippers! YesThe Ruby Slippers! Ah, yes, where are they?
(looking down)
There they are! (pointing at Dorothy's feet, then she tries to grab them)
I'm the only one that knows how to use them. They're of no use to you!
Give them back to me! Give them back!

------------------------------------------------------------
Glinda The Good Angel steps between them, and The Wicked Wretch of the West
is pushed back by the unseen Hand of God.
------------------------------------------------------------

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
You have no power here. Be gone, before somebody drops a house on you, too!

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
Very well -- I'll bide my time -- and as for you, my fine lady, it's true, I can't
attend to you here and now as I'd like, but just try to stay out of my way....
... -- just try! I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!

------------------------------------------------------------
lighting effect: lightning flash
sound effect: thunder clap, rolling
Exit in The Wicked Wretch of the West off-stage

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
It's all right. You can get up -- she's gone.

------------------------------------------------------------
The Munchables all rise, start to move toward Glinda and Dorothy as Glinda speaks to them
------------------------------------------------------------

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Sheeew -- what a smell of sulphur! I'm afraid you've made rather a bad enemy of the
Wicked Wretch of the West. The sooner you begin your journey to see the
Wonderful Witness of Uz, the safer you'll sleep, my dear.

DOROTHY
How will I get there? Do you have a car? (The Munchables giggle)

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Car? (laughing) With the price of gas these days? (laughing more)
Ohno, my dear you'll have to walk. The Munchables will see
you safely to the border of MunchableLand. And remember, never let those
ruby slippers off your feet for a moment, or you will be at the mercy of the
Wicked Wretch of the West.

ACTS 2 SCENE 3

DOROTHY
But, how do I start for the Golden City?

------------------------------------------------------------
Glinda and Dorothy walk to the beginning of the Yellow Brick Gold
------------------------------------------------------------
GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
It's always best to start at the beginning-- There's only One Way to the Golden City:
all you do is follow the Yellow Brick Gold.

DOROTHY
But -- what happens if I ---

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Just follow the Yellow Brick Gold

------------------------------------------------------------
Exit Glinda in a cloud of bubbles
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
My -- ! People come and go so quickly here! Follow the Yellow Brick Gold.
Follow the Yellow Brick Gold?

MUNCHABLE #1
Follow the Yellow Brick Gold!

MUNCHABLE #2
Follow the Yellow Brick Gold!

You're off to see the Witness, the Wonderful Witness of Uz
You'll find he is a Whiz of a Witness if ever a witness there was
If ever, oh ever, a Whiz there was the Witness of Uz is one because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the Wonderful things He does
You're off to see the Witness, the Wonderful Witness of Uz!

ACTS 2 SCENE 4

------------------------------------------------------------
The Munchables lead Dorothy and Toto off stage
Set up scarecrow on stage.
Dorothy walks back into the Gym, with Toto.
------------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Come on Toto! We need to keep moving.
(she walks toward the stage, pauses, looking 3 ways)
Now which way do we go? Right? Or left?

------------------------------------------------------------
The Scarecrow on stage points in the direction as she says it!
------------------------------------------------------------

SCARECROW
That way is a very nice way. (pointing to the right)

DOROTHY
Who said that? (she looks at Toto) Scarecrows don't

SCARECROW
The other way is pretty pleasant this time of year, too!

DOROTHY
(frightened, looking at the Scarecrow) Whyyou did say something, didn't you?

-----------------------------------------------------------
The Scarecrow shakes his head, then nods
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Are Are you doing that on purpose, or can't you make up your mind?

SCARECROW
That's the trouble. I can't make up my mind. I haven't got a brain -- only straw.

DOROTHY
How can you talk if you haven't got a....brain?

SCARECROW
I dunno. But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy walks on to the Stage
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Yes, I guess you're right. Well, we haven't really met properly, have we?
SCARECROW
Why, no!

DOROTHY
(curtsies, then speaks) How do you do?

SCARECROW
(nods, then speaks) How do you do?

DOROTHY
Very well, thank you!

SCARECROW
Oh I'm not feeling at all well. You see, it's very tedious being stuck up here all
day long with a pole up your back.

DOROTHY
Let me help you.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy helps the Scarecrow off the pole.
-----------------------------------------------------------
SCARECROW
Ohhhh

DOROTHY
Oh oh!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Scarecrow falls on the Stage, straw comes out
-----------------------------------------------------------

SCARECROW
Whhhooops! Ha-ha -- there goes some of me again!

DOROTHY
Oh -- does it hurt you?

SCARECROW
Oh, no -- I just keep picking it up and putting it back in again.

DOROTHY
Ohhh --

SCARECROW
Praise God! it's so good to be free!
But I have one biggg problem.

DOROTHY
What's that?

SCARECROW
Oh, I'm a failure, because I haven't got a brain.

DOROTHY
Well, what would you do with a brain if you had one?

SCARECROW
Do? Why, if I had a brain, I could --
(sings)
I could wile away the hours,
Conferrin' with the flowers,
Consultin' with the rain.
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
I'd unravel every riddle
For any individ'le
In trouble or in pain.
With the thoughts I'll be thinkin'
I could be another Lincoln
If I only had a brain.
Oh, I could tell you why
The ocean's near the shore
I could think of things I never thunk before,
And then I'd sit -- and think some more.
I would not be just a nuffin'
My head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry...
...Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain!

DOROTHY
Wonderful! Why, if our Scarecrow back in Kansas could do that, the crows'd be scared to pieces!

SCARECROW
They would?

DOROTHY
Um-hmm.

SCARECROW
Where's Kansas?

DOROTHY
That's where I live. And I want to get back there so badly I'm going all the way to
Golden City to get The Wonderful Witness of Uz to help me.

SCARECROW
You're going to see The Witness?

DOROTHY
Um-hmm.

SCARECROW
Do you think if I went with you The Witness would give me some brains?

DOROTHY
I couldn't say. But even if he didn't, you'd be no worse off than you are now.

SCARECROW
Yes -- that's true.

DOROTHY
But maybe you'd better not. I've got the Wicked Wretch of the West
mad at me, and you might get into trouble.

SCARECROW
That old Wretch? Huh! I'm not afraid of her!
I'm not afraid of anything --- except a lighted match.

DOROTHY
I don't blame you for that.

SCARECROW
But I'd face a whole box full of them for the chance of getting some brains.
Look --I won't be any trouble, because I don't eat a thing --
and I won't try to manage things, because I can't think. Won't you take me with you?

DOROTHY
Why, of course I will!

SCARECROW
Hooray! We're off to see The Witness! (Scarecrow falls down)

DOROTHY
We're not off to a very good start, are we? To Uz?

SCARECROW
To Uz!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy, Toto and the Scarecrow, arms locked, as they sing--
-----------------------------------------------------------
BOTH
(sing)
We're off to see the Witness, The Wonderful Witness of Uz
We hear he is a Whiz of a Witness if ever a witness there was
The Witness of Uz is one because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the Wonderful things He does.
We're off to see the Witness, the Wonderful Witness of Uz!

ACTS 2 SCENE 5

-----------------------------------------------------------
Set up Tin Man on Stage, with an apple tree
Dorothy, Toto and the Scarecrow re-enter the Gym from another door, and go up on Stage
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Oh -- apples -- Oh look! Oh. Oh ---

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy walks over and stands by the Tree --
-- she places the wicker basket next to the tree, with Toto's nose by the tree--
she picks an apple off -- she reacts as the tree takes the apple back and slaps Dorothy's hand
Glinda is standing behind the tree, watching over Dorothy
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Ouch!

APPLE TREE
So what do you think you're doing?

DOROTHY
We've been walking a long ways and I was hungry and -- Did you say....

APPLE TREE
Well, how would you like to have someone come along and pick something off of you?

DOROTHY
Oh, dear --Oh my!-- I keep forgetting I'm not in Kansas!

APPLE TREE
WhatWhat is that creature? What's it doing?

DOROTHY
Oh, that's Toto! (she bends down to pick up the apples)
Here, let me put these back

APPLE TREE
You can have themmake it go away!

DOROTHY
Oh, thank you!

-----------------------------------------------------------
As Dorothy picks up one apple that rolled over by the Tin Man, she notices his foot.
-----------------------------------------------------------

SCARECROW
Praise God! I guess that did it! Help yourself.

DOROTHY
Why, it's a man! A man made out of tin!

SCARECROW
What?

DOROTHY
Yes. Oh -- look --

TIN MAN
(with mouth frozen shut) Oil can.....Oil can....

DOROTHY
Did you say something?

TIN MAN
(louder) Oil can....

SCARECROW
Oil can what?

DOROTHY
Oil can? Oh -- oh, here it is!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Scarecrow and Dorothy examine the Tin Man -- he tries to speak --
they oil him about the mouth On the Oil can is written Anointing Oil
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Where do you want to be anointed first?

TIN MAN
My mouth -- my mouth!

SCARECROW
He said his mouth.

DOROTHY
Here -- here --

SCARECROW
The other side....

DOROTHY
Yes --- there.

-----------------------------------------------------------
The Tin Man tries to speak -- squeaks out a few sounds
-----------------------------------------------------------

TIN MAN
Mm.....mm...mm....

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy and Scarecrow listen as the Tin Man starts to speak --
Dorothy starts to pull the axe arm of the Tin Man down -- Scarecrow oils him --
-----------------------------------------------------------

TIN MAN
...m...m...my, my, my, my goodness -- I can talk again!
Oh -- oil my arms, please oil my elbows.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy lowers the right arm of the Tin Man so that it hangs
naturally -- Scarecrow busy with the oil can -- the Tin Man begins his story --
-----------------------------------------------------------

TIN MAN
Oh --

DOROTHY
...Oh, did that hurt?

TIN MAN
No -- it feels wonderful. I've held that axe up for ages. Oh ---

DOROTHY
Oh, goodness! How did you ever get like this?

TIN MAN
Oh -- well, about a year ago -- I was chopping that tree --
minding my own business -- when suddenly it started to rain....

-----------------------------------------------------------
Scarecrow and Dorothy listen to the Tin Man -- he grows weak --
they work his arms back and forth -- Scarecrow oils his neck for him --
Dorothy raps on the Tin Man's chest -- they react -- Tin Man explains,
then steps backward toward tree
-----------------------------------------------------------

TIN MAN
...and right in the middle of a chop, I...I rusted solid. I lost my anointing.
And I've been that way ever since.

DOROTHY
Well, you're perfect now.

TIN MAN
My...my neck. My...my neck. Perfect? Oh -- bang on my chest if you think I'm
perfect. Go ahead -- bang on it!

DOROTHY
Oh --!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sound effects: banging on an empty metal trashcan
-----------------------------------------------------------

SCARECROW
Beautiful! What an echo!

TIN MAN
It's empty. The tinsmith forgot to give me a heart.

DOROTHY AND SCARECROW
No heart?

TIN MAN
No heart.

DOROTHY
Oh --

TIN MAN
But praise God I'm free! But, I'm all hollow. Oh

-----------------------------------------------------------
Tin Man falls back as Scarecrow and Dorothy help him -- he
holds them off -- begins to sing --
-----------------------------------------------------------

TIN MAN
(sings)
When a man's an empty kettle,
He should be on his mettle.
And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin'
That I could be kind-a human,
If I only had a heart.
I'd be tender -- I'd be gentle
And awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art
I'd be friends with the sparrows
And the boy who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
Picture me....a balcony....Above a voice sings low.

DOROTHY
Wherefore art thou, Romeo?
TIN MAN
(Continues to Sing)
I hear a beat....how sweet!
I would register emotion
Jealousy -- Devotion --
And really feel the part,
I could stay young and chipper,
And I'd lock it with a zipper,
If I only had a heart...!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Tin Man falls back as Scarecrow and Dorothy help him againhe holds them off
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, are you all right?

TIN MAN
I'm afraid I'm a little rusty yet.

DOROTHY
Oh, dear -- That was wonderful! You know -- we were just wondering why
you couldn't come to the Golden City with us to ask the Witness of Uz for a heart.

TIN MAN
Golden City? Why, that's a long and dangerous journey. And it might rain on the way!

SCARECROW
But you've just been saying how much you want a heart.

DOROTHY
And I'll keep the fresh anointing oil-can handy!

TIN MAN
Well, suppose The Witness wouldn't give me one when we got there?

DOROTHY
Oh, but he will! He must! We've come sucha long way already!

-----------------------------------------------------------
The Wicked Wretch of the West laughs her evil laugh from Stage Left
Lighting effect: Lightning
Sound Effect: Thunder clap, rolling
-----------------------------------------------------------

TIN MAN
Ohh -- what's that? Oh --

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
You call that long? Why, you've just begun! Forgotten about me, eh?
Well, I haven't forgotten about you!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tin Man, Dorothy and Scarecrow react as the Wretch speaks--
-----------------------------------------------------------

THE WICKED WRETCH OF THE WEST
Helping the little lady along, are you, my fine gentlemen? Well, stay away from her!
(she walks on stage, points at the Scarecrow) Or I'll stuff a mattress with you!
(points at the Tin Man) And you! I'll use you for a bee-hive! (evil laughs)
(points at Dorothy) And as for you, my little pretty.
...Dorothy, I wish you all the bad luck with the Witness of Uz. And a....
(evil laughs) ...happy non-journey back to Kansas!

-----------------------------------------------------------
the Wretch exits Stage left in a huff-- cloud of smoke --
-----------------------------------------------------------

SCARECROW
I'm not afraid of her. I'll see you get safely to The Witness now, whether I get a
brain or not! Stuff a mattress with me! Hah!

TIN MAN
I'll see you reach The Witness, whether I get a heart of not. Bee-hive -- bah!
Let her try and make a bee-hive out of me!

DOROTHY
It's ...just that the Wretch is so wicked. I don't think you two ought to come with me
because you'll get into trouble.

SCARECROW
Oh, you don't think we're going to stand by and let her get away with her treachery, do you?

TIN MAN
No, sir!

SCARECROW
(saluting) No, sir!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy walks over to the Scarecrow and the Tin Man as she Dorothy speaks--
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Oh, you're the best friends anybody ever had! And it's funny, but I feel as if I've
known you all the time. But I couldn't have, could I?

SCARECROW
I don't see how. You weren't around when I was stuffed and sewn together, were you?

TIN MAN
And I was standing over there rusting for the longest time.
DOROTHY
Still, I wish I could remember. But, I guess it doesn't matter anyway.
We know each other now, don't we?

SCARECROW
That's right.

TIN MAN
We do.

SCARECROW
To Uz?

TIN MAN
To Uz!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow and the Tin Man arms locked, as they sing--
-----------------------------------------------------------

THE THREE

Lighting change: Dark Green for the Dark and Eerie Forest
Sounds: Deep Jungle sounds / music from the "Oz" movie
Enter in Tin Man , Dorothy, Toto and Scarecrow
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
I don't like this forest! It's -- it's dark and creepy!

SCARECROW
Of course, I don't know, but I think it'll get darker before it gets lighter.

DOROTHY
Do -- do you suppose we'll meet any wild animals?

TIN MAN
We might.
DOROTHY
Oh --

SCARECROW
Animals that -- that eat straw?

TIN MAN
Some -- but mostly lions, and tigers, and bears.

DOROTHY
(reacts) Lions?

SCARECROW
And tigers? (looking around)

TIN MAN
(looking around) And bears.

DOROTHY
(frightened) Oh! Lions and tigers and bears!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Sound effect: Lion growl
As they walk up onto the StageDorothy reacts
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Oh, my!

TIN MAN, SCARECROW AND DOROTHY
Lions and tigers and bears!

DOROTHY
Oh, my!

TIN MAN, SCARECROW AND DOROTHY
Lions and tigers and bears!

DOROTHY
Oh, my!

TIN MAN -- SCARECROW AND DOROTHY
Lions and tigers and bears!

DOROTHY
Oh, my!

TIN MAN -- SCARECROW AND DOROTHY
Lions and tigers and bears!

DOROTHY
Oh, my! (screams)

-----------------------------------------------------------
Sound effect: Lion growl
The Lion suddenly jumps out from behind some bushes on stage--
Tin Man and Scarecrow fall down--
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
What sort of an animal is that?

TIN MAN
It-it-it-it - it's a huge one!

SCARECROW
D-d-d-don't be fr-fr-frightened. I - I'll - I'll protect you. Oh, look! (points to the Lion)

LION
(walks on Stage) Put 'em up! Put 'em up! Which one of you first?
I'll fight you both together if you want! I'll fight you with one paw tied behind my back.
I'll fight you standing on one foot. I'll fight you with my eyes closed.
(to the Tin Man) Oh -- pulling an axe on me, eh?
(to the Scarecrow) Sneaking up on me, eh? Why! (snarls)

TIN MAN
Here -- here. Go 'way and let us alone!

LION
Oh, scared, huh? Afraid, huh? How long can you stay fresh in that can?
(laughs) Come on -- get up and fight, you shivering junkyard!
Put your hands up, you lop-sided bag of hay!

SCARECROW
Now that's getting personal, Lion.

TIN MAN
Yes -- get up and teach him a lesson.

SCARECROW
Well -- what's -- wrong with you teaching him?

TIN MAN
Well -- well --, I hardly know him.

LION
Well, I'll get you, instead, Pee-Wee.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Lion starts for Toto -- Dorothy slaps his paw --
Lion backs away -- crying --
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Shame on you!

LION
What -- what did you do that for? I didn't bite him.

DOROTHY
No, but you tried to! It's bad enough picking on a straw man, but when you
go around picking on poor little dogs --

LION
Well, you didn't have to go and hit me, did you? Is my nose bleeding?

DOROTHY
Well, of course not. My goodness, what a fuss you're making. Well, naturally, when you go
around picking on things weaker than you are -- Why, you're nothing but a great big coward!

LION
You're right -- I am a coward. I haven't any courage at all. I even scare myself. Look at the
dark circles under my eyes. I haven't slept in weeks.

TIN MAN (stands up)
Why don't you try counting sheep?

LION
That doesn't do any good -- I'm afraid of 'em.

SCARECROW (stands up)
Oh, that's too bad. Don't you think The Witness could help him, too?

DOROTHY
I don't see why not! Why don't you come along with us? We're on our way to see The Witness now.
(pointing at Tin Man) To get him a heart.

TIN MAN
(pointing at Scarecrow) And him a brain.

DOROTHY
I'm sure He could give you some courage.

LION
Well, wouldn't you feel degraded to be seen in the presence of a cowardly lion? I would.

DOROTHY
No, of course not.

LION
Gee, that's -- that's awfully nice of you. My life has been simply unbearable.

DOROTHY
Oh.

LION
(sings)
Yeh, it's sad, believe me, Missy
When you're born to be a sissy,
Without the vim and verve.
But I could change my habits
Never more be scared of rabbits
If I only had the nerve
I'm afraid there's no denyin'
I'm just a dande-lion --
A fate I don't deserve.
But I could show my prowess --
Be a lion not a mou-ess --
If I only had the nerve
Oh I'd be in my stride
A king down to the sore
Oh I'd roar the way I never roared before
And then I'd woof! And roar some more
I would show the dinosaurs
Who is king around the forest
A king they'd better save
Shy with my regal beezer
I could be another Caeser
If I only had the nerve

DOROTHY
To Uz?

LION
To Uz!

ALL
(sings) We're off to see the Witness, The Wonderful Witness of Uz
We hear he is a Whiz of a Witness if ever a witness there was
The Witness of Uz is one because Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the Wonderful things He does.
We're off to see the Witness, the Wonderful Witness of Uz!

-----------------------------------------------------------

SCARECROW
I've got a plan how to get in there.

LION
Fine. He's got a plan

SCARECROW
And you're going to lead us.

LION
Yeah. Me?

SCARECROW
Yes, you!

LION
I -- I -- I -- I -- gotta get her outta there?

SCARECROW
That's right.

LION
All right, I'll go in there for Dorothy --
Wicked Wretch or no Wicked Wretch -- guards or no guards --
I'll tear 'em apart. (growls) I may not come out alive, but I'm
going in there. There's only one thing I want you fellows to do.

SCARECROW AND TIN MAN
What's that?

LION
Talk me out of it.

TIN MAN
No, you don't.

SCARECROW
Oh, no!

LION
No? Now, wait a minute.

TIN MAN
You don't neither --

SCARECROW

But-- but what's happening? My evil my wickedness is gone! I don't know--
I don't know who I am any more (begins to cry)

DOROTHY
(kneels down to comfort her) Why don't you come with us to the Golden City?

ACTS 2 SCENE 8

-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Change to empty stage, except a small pulpit for The Witness--
Lighting -- all white
Tin Man, Scarecrow, Lion, Dorothy and The Lost Wretch standing all in a row--
The Witness standing off to one side, with Glinda at his side--
-----------------------------------------------------------

DOROTHY
Oh Glinda, it's so good to see you. Can we see The Witness now?

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
Yes, all of you can meet The Witness. He will tell you what to do next.

DOROTHY
Your majesty (she curtseys and bows her head) we have come with many needs, sir--

THE WITNESS
No, no, please stand. You do not need to bow before me, I am just The Witness, not The King.

DOROTHY
We've come sucha long way and we thought we would see The King who could help us.

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
(gently) Do not be sad. The Witness can help you. He knows The King and speaks for Him.
Listen now to him and he will tell you what to do.

THE WITNESS
Why have you come? What do you want The King to do for you?

DOROTHY
I ask for the need of my friend, The Lion. He needs courage to face each day--

TIN MAN
I ask for the need of my friend, The Scarecrow. He needs a brain-- he ain't so smart--

SCARECROW
I ask for the need of my friend, The Tin Man. He needs a heart--

LION
And I ask for the need of my friend Dorothy. She needs to go home!

DOROTHY
AndI also ask for the need of our new friend, The Lost Wretch, that she would find salvation--

THE WITNESS
The answer for each of you is found here (holds up a copy of The Bible)
This is The King's living word. I'm just the messenger. Let me show you here in His Word--
(picks up the heart badge, walks over to Tin Man)
For you, Tin Man: The King's Word promises you a new heart, and so shall it be.
It says in The King's Word, "I will give you a new heart."
"And I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you.
I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart."
This is your answer.

(picks up a second Bible, walks over to Scarecrow)
For you, Scarecrow: You already have a brain, you just need to think on the right things.
This is The King's Word. In it you will find all the wisdom you need to face each day.
"And now dear friends, let me say one more thing to you. Fix your thoughts on what is true and
honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think
about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."
This is your answer.

(picks up the badge of courage, walks over to the Lion)
For you, Lion: You are afraid of the wrong things. The King's Word tells you to Fear Not.
"Dear friends, don't be afraid of those who want to kill you. They can only kill the body: but
they cannot do any more to you. But I'll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who as the power
to kill people and throw them into hell. What is the price of five sparrows. A couple of pennies?
Yet God does not forget a single one of them And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.
So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to him than a whole flock of sparrows."
This is your answer.

(motions to The Lost Wretch)
For you, The Lost Wretch. There is a story in the King's Word about someone
who was lost just like you, but now is found.
"We have to celebrate this happy day. For this, your brother, was dead and has come back to life!
He was lost, but now he is found!"
This is your answer.

THE LOST WRETCH
What do I do now?

THE WITNESS
The King's Word tells us, "You must be born again"

THE LOST WRETCH
But how can I do that? I am old now, and it doesn't seem possible to become a baby again?

THE WITNESS
There is no need to become a baby again. The King's Word tells us in Acts 2:38 you need to
Repent, which you have doneand now you need to be baptized in JESUS Name and receive
a gift from The King-- His Spirit. It will come and live in your heart. That experience is
Called "born again". Then you will need to change and put on this new garment --
(Glinda hands The Lost Wretch a white wedding dress) You will become part of the
bride of Christ.

THE LOST WRETCH
Yesyes.I can do that. I will be born again. I will wear the new clothes!

DOROTHY
(speaking to Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion) This is what we must do to be saved--
We need to do this! You heard him-- every one of us--
(looking and pointing at the audience) -- All of us! (looks at The Witness)
OhMr. Witness, what about me? I want to go home.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Lion, Tinman, Scarecrow and The Wretch at the same time all say things like
"Poor Dorothy" "Can you help her get home?"
"Can we do anything to help?" "She's helped us so much"
-----------------------------------------------------------

THE WITNESS
Dorothy, getting home is up to you. You must have a want to.

GLINDA THE GOOD ANGEL
(Glinda walks out, puts her hand on Dorothy's shoulder and waves the wand over her head)
Close your eyes and say, There's no place like home

DOROTHY
There's no place like home (Dorothy closes her eyes, clicks her shoes twice)
There's no place like home.(click-click)
There's no place like home.(click-click)

-----------------------------------------------------------
Missy walks out for her song, in front of the stage, as the curtain closes--

received the promise from Jesus! While they were away, their neighbor,
Almira Gulch, watched Dorothy but after Dorothy hit her head during the storm
Almira stayed right at Dorothy's side, repenting, praying and asking God to heal
Dorothy and bring her back home.

ALMIRA GULCH (aka The Lost Wretch)
Oh, forgive me Jesus, I repent of everything...I'm sorry for how I treated Dorothy and
her little dog. I'm so sorry please forgive me (cries). Lord, please heal her

The Hunk (aka The Scarecrow), Zeke (aka The Cowardly Lion) and
Hickory (aka The Tin Man) are excitedly talking about the Day of Pentecost
as they walk back into the Gym
-----------------------------------------------------------

THE HUNK (aka The Scarecrow)
I'm still shaking! Wasn't that awesome --how God filled us with the Holy Ghost!?

HICKORY (aka The Tin Man)
Musta been thousands there! What an awesome time in the Lord!

ZEKE (aka The Cowardly Lion)
Yes! Oh Yes! Wasn't that awesome what happened at the Temple today?

THE HUNK (aka The Scarecrow)
Oh yeah.The lame man! Yes!

HICKORY (aka The Tin Man)
Uncle Henry prayed for himwhat did he say?

ZEKE (aka The Cowardly Lion)
"Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee:
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk!"

HICKORY (aka The Tin Man)
That's it! Then -- (his cell phone rings) I better get this (answers) Hello?
Dorothy is out and (pauses) may be in a coma? (pauses) we're on our way--
Brothers -- Dorothy needs us right away!

-----------------------------------------------------------
The 3 gather around Dorothy.
Enter Uncle Henry and Auntie Em. Toto is there.
Uncle Henry begins to pray--
-----------------------------------------------------------

UNCLE HENRY
First, Almira, thank you for watching and praying for Dorothy. My, how The Lord works!
(begins to pray) Lord, we know you can heal -- We just witnessed it at the Temple!
We pray right now in agreement: In the Name of Jesus, Dorothy, wake up!

DOROTHY
(gasps..then softly at first) -- no place like home -- there's no place like home -- no place --

AUNTIE EM
Dorothy. (gently shakes her) Dorothy, dear. It's Auntie Em, darling.

DOROTHY
Oh, Auntie Em -- it's you!

AUNTIE EM
Yes, darling.

UNCLE HENRY
You got quite a bump on the head -- we kinda thought there for a minute you were
going to leave us.

DOROTHY
But I did leave you, Uncle Henry -- that's just the trouble. And I tried to get back
for days and days.

AUNTIE EM
There, there, lie quiet now. You just had a bad dream.

DOROTHY
No --

THE HUNK (aka The Scarecrow)
Sure -- remember me -- your old pal, Hunk?

HICKORY (aka The Tin Man)
And me -- Hickory?

ZEKE (aka The Cowardly Lion)
You couldn't forget my face, could you?

DOROTHY
No. But it wasn't a dream -- it was a place.
(points at each one) And you -- and you -- and you -- and even you (points at Almira) were there.

AUNTIE EM
Oh, we dream lots of silly things when we --

DOROTHY
No, Auntie Em -- this was a real, truly live place. And I remember that some of it wasn't
very nice...but most of it was beautiful! But just the same, all I kept saying to everybody
was, I want to go home. And they sent me home. (looks around) Doesn't anybody believe me?

UNCLE HENRY
Of course we believe you, Dorothy.

DOROTHY
Oh, but anyway, Toto, we're home!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Dorothy holds Toto in her arms -- Dorothy looks around room --
speaks -- tears come to her eyes -- Auntie Em rises -- puts her arm around Dorothy --
-----------------------------------------------------------

AUNTIE EM
Oh, Dorothy! Thank God you're healed!

DOROTHY
