No Comprende

by PamFord Davis

Reading without comprehension is useless.

I tried to read the Bible before giving my life to Christ; I found it confusing.

Listening to a conversation without comprehension is futile (and frustrating).

Imagine speaking a foreign language; you are invited to an English speaking worship service.

‘No comprende English.’

Jesus spoke the same language as His disciples; yet, they could not comprehend.

“Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, ‘Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things which are written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and mistreated and spit upon, and after they have scourged Him, they will kill Him; and the third day He will rise again.’ But the disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said (Luke 18:31-34 NASB).”

He did die; He did rise again!

His disciples would comprehend and testify!

“Now He said to them, ‘These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things (Luke 24:44-48 NASB).”
