A DIVINE HEART

by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: Jeremiah 24:6-7

‘ ‘A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.’’ Ezekiel 36: 26 (KJV)

There was this young man who shared his personal testimony in one of our parishes in The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. According to him, he said he went into the bush with an axe and he came out of the bush with a Bible. This means that while he was a student on campus, he was a cultist and as at when he was giving the testimony he was already carrying Bible to preach. God gave him a new heart and he got repented from cultism and he is now a preacher of the gospel. His testimony is always evergreen in my memory. We bless God. When a fellow gets a divine heart, such a fellow becomes a practitioner of holiness, righteousness, and truth.

Our scriptural reading where we took our text from in the book of Jeremiah 24:6-7, God promised to set His eyes upon His people for good and that He would establish them, and that He would give them the heart to know Him. This is a heart that would reverence and fear Him and would be devoted to good works and would live right before Him.

God is the greatest physician that is skillful in spiritual heart surgery activities. He knows that the heart of stone is not good for believers but the heart of flesh that has been spiritually circumcised. This is why God has decided to give us brand new hearts to know Him and even physical hearts that have been damaged will be miraculously healed by Him. God wants us to always work with Him in sincerity, acknowledging that we need a change of heart to be able to do the right thing at all times and He will give us a divine heart that is fit for every good work.

Do we know that God is still in the business of spiritual heart surgery? The answer is YES. When we accept that the lifestyle we indulge in is not compatible with the word of God and that we cannot help ourselves, then God will come to our rescue and He will give us His divine heart that would help us to stand in righteousness. This is also a supporting scripture we can hold on to on a daily basis for a heart to know God. ‘‘And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:’’ Ezekiel 11:19 (KJV). God answer prayers and He will hear us always.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, give me and my family brand new hearts to know you and help us to serve you in holiness and righteousness, and to do the right thing at all times. Amen

The heart that is divinely orchestrated is a floodgate to pleasing the creator.
