THE DIVINE FAMILY IN TIMES OF SUMMER

by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: Psalms 74:16-17

‘‘Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.’’  Psalms 74:17 (KJV)

In my family, the teaching profession has become a noble business as it comes with joy in imparting knowledge to students. My parents are teachers. When schools are in session, we all would have to be very busy. While my parents would be working on their lesson plans and preparing for their teaching engagements, I would have to assist with some of the domestic chores along with others. The stress of rising up early in the morning to prepare for schooling activities was not an easy one to come by. The vacation break is usually a time to look forward to as it is characterized by a lot of funs. It is a period of rest, rejuvenation and leisure period. The break is a time when my parents would have to engage in plenty of sleep, visitation, and travels. No wonder the book of Isaiah 30:15 (KJV) says ‘For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.’ This scripture supports a summer break as well.

All seasons have been carefully orchestrated by God Almighty. The day is meant for work and the night is for a summer break. The summer and winter serve different purposes. Family reunion, rest and togetherness in this period are God’s wish for His people.

God divine is the greatest event planner of all ages. He rested after His beautiful works of creation and having us around Him as His children is a thing of joy and fun for Him. In times of summer break, God wants us to rest, travel around if we can, to share love, stay together and pray with one another. As we go about having fun on our summer holiday, He wants us to also visit the less privilege and give them hope in order to make our summer break more meaningful. As we do all these, we need to continuously pray for our parents for divine protection and divine blessing while parents would pray for the grace to lead us well.

Do we know that leisure in times of summer break is also a good thing for us? Here is a supporting scripture. Mark 6:31 (KJV)  And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.’ In our summer break, we need a calendar of our personal events so that every day of our fun would be used to the glory of God and to the benefit of humankind. Godly fun is better than worldly fun.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, help me and my family to make good use of this summer break and lead us in all that we will do this period through your Holy Spirit Divine. Amen.

A summer break not well-managed conflict with rest and it drains the pocket.
