How Old Are You?

The mirror doesn’t lie; the camera doesn’t stretch the truth.

I’m getting old.

(I hear you.)

‘How old are you?’

Old as dirt.

My husband tells it like this.

The Bible gives us 70 years; at 72 he’s living on borrowed time.

“Our lives last seventy years
or, if we are strong, eighty years.
Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow;
indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away (Psalm 90:10 HCSB).”

Time flies.

I’m seeing many signs of aging.

Car enthusiasts fancy a car that accelerates quickly from 0-100. My acceleration has greatly decreased. I’m glad no one is timing me when I get off my couch or out of a car. It takes me a while to get revved up. I need a lube job; my joints are pretty stiff.  It’s true; I’m old as dirt.

Would you believe old as dust?

That’s how it is; God told Adam.

“You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow
until you return to the ground,
since you were taken from it.
For you are dust,
and you will return to dust (Genesis 3:19 HCSB).”

Remember the dust bowl drought?

The land was very dry.

I use moisturizer and wrinkle cream on my dry face. I use artificial tears to treat my dry eyes condition. Lip balm is close at hand for dry, cracked lips. When needed, I apply hand lotion to my dry hands.

Yikes, I’m turning to dust.

My days are numbered but I’m not worried. I trust God; He numbered them.
