From Grumbling to Gratitude

by PamFord Davis
11/04/2020 / Devotionals

“Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the ears of the Lord; and the Lord heard them and His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some at the outskirts of the camp (Numbers 11:1 NASB).”

Grumbling, griping, complaining…

It’s my besetting sin; I know better. It just comes naturally.

There’s a cure.

“… in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus (I Thessalonians 5:18 NASB). “

That’s my November memory verse. The month just started and God has already reminded me.

Recently, a cold front moved through our area. It caused the temperatures to drop into the upper 30’s. That meant extra covers on our bed; making it more of a chore when I change the sheets. I started complaing. The Holy Spirit convicted me; yes, I had a guilty conscience. I shouldn’t grumble; instead, I should be grateful.

I shouldn’t complain; the homeless don't even have blankets.

“Do all things without complaining or arguments (Philippians 2:14 NASB).”

Apostle Paul didn’t mince his words.

Jude didn’t either. He knew there were complainers like me.

“These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts (Jude 16a NASB).”

I’ve been reminded, rebuked and reprimanded. I stand guilty as charged; I confess.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 NASB).”
