Two Groups Before The Lord.

by Olawale Ogunsola
2/14/2021 / Christian Apologetics

"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who
comes to Me I will by no means cast out." John 6:37.New James Version (NKJV).

Jesus Christ, being who He is : Lord of all, will never deny Himself. Words that proceed out of His mouth have to be carried out. As He promised in the quoted verse above, He does not cast whoever comes to Him away.

This has given rise to two groups of people who are before Him at all the time. Both groups are before Him,. He spoke to them and cares for all their needs.

The first group is called "The multitude". Matthew 13:2 records,
"And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat ; and the whole multitude stood on the shore."

The Lord Jesus Christ is interested in the multitude. He gave them attention as revealed by the quoted verse. He does not cast them out because they come to Him. He spoke to them in parables ; whereas, He gave them enough attention. The multitude are even patient enough to hear all that He has to say to them. Matthew 13:3-9. You are free to read the whole chapter to know more.

Hear the caring Lord on the multitude : "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way. Matt 15:32

" So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left. " verse 37. Read also Matt 14:13-21.

Not only this, the Scriptures state,
"And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude ; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick." Matt 14:14.

With all this compassion for multitude why did He speak to them in parable? Jesus knows the heart of every man. So, He is always economical with the use of His words. He is not economical with the truth but tells the truth in few words. With all their sacrificial seeking and listening to Him, He knows the goings - on in their hearts.

In John 6:26, He declared,
"Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled."
Should He rely on the multitude? Do they all love Him for who He is? John 2:25-26.

What happens to the multitude on the long run?

"And He sent away the multitude..." Matt 15:39.

On the other hand, the other group in the presence of the Lord is the disciples. These set of people are different from the multitude. One thing is that disciples can be derived from the multitude. That is, part of the whole multitude can choose to (become) graduateto the level of disciples. Let us examine the unique features or benefits of this set of people before Jesus Christ.

One, it is given unto disciples,
"to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them (multitude) it has not been given." Matt 13:11. This is to fulfill Isaiah's prophecy. Why is this so?
"For the hearts of this people have grown dull
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed." Matt 13:15.

Two, the disciples always come to the Lord privately to know more about the mysteries of the kingdom of God. Note Matthew 13:10.

Three, disciples are ever ready to serve the Lord their God anytime and anywhere. In wilderness, they are available at the service of Jesus Christ. He has them to turn to for the purpose of giving them instructions on His next line of action to get things done.

Four, Jesus Christ can entrust His authority into the care of disciples.

How?

"Then He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples ; and the disciples gave to the multitudes." Matthew 13:19.

Five, the multitudes" sit to be served always. On the other hand, disciples are ever busy obeying the commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ.

My beloved reader, in the house of God and before the Lord Jesus Christ, are you a member of the multitude or one of the disciples? To the disciples only He said,
"Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in Me

In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you. And... I will come again and receive you to Myself ; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3.

This is the present expection of every disciple of Christ. Are you one of them? Do you expect Him to come at any time to take you to Himself? May the Lord help all of us who are expecting is coming in Jesus name.

Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
