Rich And Poor

by Olawale Ogunsola

The only Lover that human beings have is their Creator, God is Love Himself (I John 4:16). At creation, He had provided all things that mankind could ever think of having for their comfort before they were created.

Too much comfort allowed them to fall into the hand of their lone enemy, Satan, the Devil. Since that time, things have not been as it was in the garden of Eden for mankind. Labor set in and it must be a hard one to enjoy some comfort. The degree of comfort to experience depends on a man's diligence and the grace the Lord his God grant him.

Since sin set in, there have been disparities among mankind. They have existed, and still do, in different categories. So we have the rich and the poor who are also different one from another in levels.

In Deuteronomy 8:17-18, the Lord warned His people, the Jews,
"And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God : for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth.."

One of the reasons certain people are rich or wealthy is not for them to be selfish but that they may use it to serve God in the lives of others and the work of their Creator. The Lord declares, in Deuteronomy 15:11,
"For the poor shall never cease out of the land, therefore I command thee, saying, "Thou shall open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land"

So, every rich man has this responsibility to his neighbour, as commanded by God. That is why Jesus Christ recognized the rich who gave their offering in the Temple in His days. He asserted,
"for all have of their abundance cast in unto the offering of God..." Luke 21:4a.

They will surely have their rewards from God, their Maker.

Do you know that the Lord does not spare the poor in serving Him? He needs the service of the poor in his little capacity. The Lord's instructions to His people about the feast of unleavened bread is
"none shall appear before me empty". Exodus 23:15.

Whoever believes in the commandment of God and act accordingly will reap bountifully. This must have been clear to a poor widow in the days of Jesus Christ as contained in Luke Chapter twenty - one.

In verse three, the Lord bared His mind, thus, " of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all :
For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God : but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had."

Jesus appreciates sacrificial giving a lot. This does not mean that He overlooks those who give in affluence but it means He is aware of every service of His people. The sacrificial part of it is not neglected.

Therefore,"And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites."verse 1-2

As each person serves Him, the Lord sees all that everyone is doing as well as how he is doing it. With what type of heart are you serving the Lord?

He sees it clearly.

Apostle Paul has a perfect understanding of this, this may be one of the reasons for advising us thus,
"I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1.

Let me not fail to declare here that each person has a sure reward from God for every work or service done for Him. It means that the widow with two mites may have given them to pave way for her riches, unknowingly. She gave it! I am sure, the Lord will reward her. How she has been rewarded was not disclosed in the Holy Bible but Jesus cannot disappoint her. He said,
"And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:12.

NOTE FOR SALVATION
"The Father loveth the Son (Jesus Christ), and hath given all things into his hand.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." John 3:35-36.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
