In times of stress, we can discover a fully supplied Grace

"Be still and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10

While this may be a favorite quoted verse, it is often misinterpreted to mean finding a place of rest in God. Although it is important to pace ourselves during hectic schedules, this verse is not about relaxing.

The words 'Be still' were written in the biblical context of a time of trouble and war; therefore, we should consider the verse with that context in mind.

The best definition for the meaning of this verse is to "cease striving" or to "stop fighting, which requires action on our part.

The people of God should acknowledge who God is during seasons of excessive worry, anxiety, and fears. Even in tumultuous seasons, where emotions exhaust, we can find security in a Lord who is reliable, devoted, authentic, affectionate, tender, and wraps each one in the warmth of his radically inclusive love!  Our feelings do not hinder the activity of our Lord or his divine plans.

Our mechanical role is to take action to not resist his love in trying times. God's role is to transform those areas of fears, anxieties, and worries through his sanctifying and regenerative Grace, ushering us to a place of trust.

When we let go of what we cannot control and release our emotional reactions to our Lord, we discover a deep reservoir of expansive, immeasurable passion. He is always our primary source of assurance and strength during periods of difficulties.

Biblical people are no different than you and me when we neglect to call upon our God as the foremost source of help, interdepending upon him in our time of need.

God invites all those wearied from fearful, anxious restlessness to come to him and receive his endless and unlimited supplied Grace.

As an act of our will, we can choose to stop striving against emotions, cease struggling in what we want as a result, and join in participating in his ample provision.  Our Lord promised to draw near to us when we draw near to him. When we come to him, you, me, and we as a community of Saints are grasped tightly by a merciful love that surpasses human understanding.

Releasing our hold on adverse situations and attached emotions, we approach our Lord, recognizing him as a preeminent source in anything experienced. Our Lord shepherds us in entering those areas of distress in the constant offering an inflexible, transcendent, and illuminating Grace!

Prayer:

Father, remind us to turn our attention immediately towards you and the things of your kingdom when troubling circumstances and emotions overwhelm us. May we close our eyes and meditate on the verse; Be Still and know that I am God as our daily devotion.
