Princess Pearl, P.O.W.E.R. Girl, Book Two - Ch. 7 - A New Day

     Pearl woke to see Xi sitting on the bed, dressed in her mother's robe.
     "Hey! How long have you been up?"
     Xi looked up from her cell phone. "A couple hours. I kinda fell asleep in the tub. You're right--that bubble bath smells great! Then I was really hungry, but I didn't want to make any noise. I heard your mom and uncle in the kitchen, so I went in."
     She stopped, and shook her head. "They were so nice! I didn't think I was hungry, but they fed me chocolate pudding. Then, I ate a burger and fries, and then more pudding!" She laughed. "I was a little embarrassed, but I guess I really was hungry. Then they prayed for me."
     She looked like she would cry again, but this time she seemed happy. "Your mom helped me into bed, and I slept so good I was awake way before you!"
     "Did Queen Mother lay her land on your forehead?"
     "Yes, how did you know?"
     "She does that for Rob and me before we go to sleep. It's pretty neat. She's been doing that for years, to calm us. It's like God touching us or something."
     "Yeah," Xi said. "Cool. And you guys have a gorgeous house. It's so quiet! Do you ever watch TV, or even have one?"
     Pearl laughed. "Yes—it’s very quiet! This is Uncle Burt's house, and he has a TV, but he's usually like us--reading or working. We don't watch much at all. Sometimes we watch a movie--a good happy one. Anyway, we have lots of other things to do."
     "So you don't have a house?"
     "We did with Daddy," said Pearl. "Now his mansion is in Heaven!" She felt a little sad. Daddy, I miss you! she thought. But we'll see you when Jesus comes back! "We're going to build ours next spring."
     Xi looked shocked again. "You're going to build a house? Doesn't that cost a lot of money?"
     I'd rather have my dad than a house! Pearl thought. "Daddy got killed in a motorcycle accident last year, so God told us to move here with Uncle Burt. My daddy was very smart, and Mom said he had good insurance. Now he's in Heaven. But I'd rather have him!" LORD, help me not be sad, she thought.  Xi needs me happy!
     "Sorry," Xi said. "Mom said my old man left a long time ago, and I don't even remember him, I guess they were married."
     "That stinks," said Pearl. "But you know what? God sent you to earth, and anyway, I think there's a verse about that--"
     "About my dad leaving? In the Bible?!" Xi sounded mad.
     Pearl flipped pages in her Bible. "Oh, here it is, Psalm 27:10: 'When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take care of me.' That's the New King James Version, without the 'thees' and 'thous' like the King James, to make it easier to read."
     "King who?" Xi looked puzzled. "Anyway, you mean God takes over when someone's old man walks out?"
     “Or, when your mom throws you out!” Pearl said. "Queen Mother says He's always there for us. He's a good, good, Father. He loves kids! Queen Mother said He wanted a big Royal Family and that's why there are so many people on the planet. He keeps sending babies!"
     Xi shook her head. "Why in the world would He send babies to this terrible place?"
     Bless her heart, Pearl thought, she doesn't know anything about God or the Bible! But You are teaching her, LORD! "Xi, God is the Author of Life--"
     Pearl's mother walked in and said, "Who's hungry? Burt's making his famous waffles!"
