Princess Pearl, P.O.W.E.R. Girl! Book Two - UPDATED Ch. 26 - Special Guests at Thanksgiving

“Girls, wait before you put the tablecloth on,” said Burt. “I need to put the leaf in.”

“Leaf?” Xi said. “Is he going to decorate, or something?”

Pearl smiled. “No, I think he means a part of the table that slides into the middle and makes it longer, or something.”

“Right!” said her mother, taking the dressing out of the oven. “Girls, please help Burt, and remember to get the Thanksgiving bottles you made for everyone.”

“Yeah!” said Pearl. “They'll love ‘em! This will be fun! I’m so glad you could get off and be with us, Xi!”

“Me too,” she said.

“God is good!” said Pearl’s mother.

Xi nodded, and as they got the table fixed, then spread the lovely white tablecloth on top, she pointed. “I think I’ve seen this before. Isn't that Jesus and His guys?”

“Yes, it’s The Last Supper, where he ate with the disciples before He went to the cross to die for our sins.”

Xi didn’t reply.

They helped Pearl’s mother put out the lovely placemats, fancy plates, and silverware.

"This stuff is really nice, Mrs. Williams,” said Xi. “But why are there ten places?”

Pearl giggled, and her mother said, “One is for Sophia, our new neighbor, and the other is for King Jesus. He is always the most honored Guest.”

Xi looked at Pearl, who just smiled. She probably thinks we’re nuts, Pearl thought. But Jesus, I ask You to help her know You’re here!

The girls brought down the bottles and arranged each by their place.

“You only have nine,” Xi said.

“Yes, ‘cause we each have one, although our thanksgiving is to King Jesus,” explained Pearl.

Xi didn’t say anything, and Pearl giggled again. “Xiomara Farrar, there’s a lot that none of us understand about God, but I do know He is always good and faithful, and generous and sweet, and He loves us. So we do things to honor Him, and give Him our praise--just like these bottles to remember good things He's done."

Xi grinned and said, “Yeah, well, this stuff is better than most movies I’ve seen so far!”

“Amen!” said Pearl.

“Xi, would you girls chop the veggies for the relish tray and salad?" Pearl's mother said. "Risa and the kids will be here any minute, and I trust our friend Sophia--”

The doorbell rang and Vivace barked and ran toward the front. They heard Watchman howl from outside.

Robert ran in from the next room. “Hey! Lucas can watch cartoons with me!”

“Robert, hold your horses.” said his mother. “I need you to be quiet while people come in.” She pointed to the other room. “Go watch your movie and I’ll send Lucas to get you. We'll eat in just a bit.”

This is a little scary, but a lot exciting! Pearl thought.

Burt opened the door, and there stood the new neighbor, an elegant older woman. She was holding a big bag and smiling.

“Come in Ms. Sophia, come in,” said Burt. He took the bag. “You didn’t have to bring anything.”

"I brought pumpkin flan and fresh Alfacar bread,” said Sophia, in her thick Spanish accent. “But I did not have the spring water from Alfacar, so it may taste like Fuji, because I used Fuji water!”

They all laughed, and Queen Mother took the bag. “We are so glad you could join us!” She pointed to Pearl’s dog, who was whining and running around their feet. “This is Vivace--”

“One of my favorite classicals,” said Sophia.

“Burt is my brother, and this is my daughter, Pearl, and her friend, Xiomara. Our friend Risa and her two children will be here shortly. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to finish the preparations.”

Sophia shook Burt’s hand, then looked at the girls. “Two beautiful princesses!” she said.

Xi looked uncomfortable.

I can surely say hello in Spanish, at least! Pearl thought, and said, “Hola! Como esta?”

Sophia smiled widely. “Muy bien, gracias! And where is the little prince?”

“You mean me?” Robert said, running up to her. “I'm Robert, and the bull tried to kill me, but Jesus saved me!”

“Ah, yes. Todopoderoso is mighty, for you and against all the toros!” she said.

That must be a Spanish name for God! thought Pearl. Cool!

“Please have a seat, said Pearl’s mother, pointing to the couch. “Lunch is almost ready, and Risa and the kids are on their way. Would you like something to drink?”

Watchman barked again. “Hey! That’s Robin and them!” said Pearl. She and Xi walked out and helped Risa and Robin and Lucas get in with the turkey and pumpkin-cream cheese pie and other food.

They introduced themselves, and Risa and Sophia talked rapidly in Spanish.

“What are they saying?” asked Pearl.

“I know some of it,” said Robin. “But they are going so fast, I’m not sure. It’s neat that Mrs. Sophia's from Spain, though. Some of her words might be different, but not much!"

After a few minutes, Burt spoke up. “All right, everyone, let’s gather around the table and bless the food!” They all joined hands, and he prayed.

“King Jesus, You are the Guest of honor. We all owe You everything, for every good thing in our lives is from You. You are the One Who gave the Pilgrims the courage to come over here and start a new country--to be free to worship and serve You! Thank You!"

He paused, then went on. "Have mercy on the United States of America, and restore our devotion to You! We thank You for every blessing, including this delicious food. Let it be only a blessing to our bodies, and help us remember every day to thank You for all Your goodness! In Your Name, amen.”

They all sat down, and Burt started carving the turkey. "Who's ready for the main dish?" he said.

“This is so nice,” said Sophia, taking the potatoes from Risa. “That is an excellent glass globe!" she said, admiring the centerpiece, "The light looks on inside!"

"Yes, it reminds us to pray for everyone, Ms. Sophia," said Pearl, handing Xi the green bean casserole. "Jesus is the Light of the world!"

"Amen, JesuCristo es la Luz de el mundo!" said Sophia. "I wish my brother Nicolas could be here. He needs to come to the States and be around good people like you.”

“Robert, be careful and pass the rolls, please," said Pearl's mother. "Is your brother still in Spain, Ms. Sophia?”

“Yes," said Sophia. "I have not yet convinced him to move.”

“That’s a God-project,” Burt said, and laughed. “It took Him a while to convince me of a few things!”

“That’s true!” said Pearl’s mother, "and me too." She turned to her friend. "Risa, this turkey is delicious!”

“Thank you. Robin and Lucas helped me inject it with butter and grape juice, and Robin made a scrumptious pumpkin-cream cheese pie!"

"Pearl and Xi helped me with the other dishes,” said Pearl’s mother. I think I'll let them cook more often! They also prepared Thanksgiving Time Capsule bottle crafts for us to do after we eat the main meal."

This is so wonderful, thought Pearl, to all be together and rest and enjoy this delicious food! Thank You, LORD!

She got up to help Queen Mother start clearing the table, while the others moved to the Den. “Sir Robert can stay and help me,” Pearl’s mother said, as she winked at Pearl. “It’s his turn in the kitchen.”

Not!” said Robert, but he got out of his chair and started picking up the silverware.

Thank You Jesus! Pearl thought, as she and Robin got the  bottles and sat them on the coffee table. She and Robin handed out the stickers and markers and paper and pens.

“I like the American flag stickers!” said Sophia. “So targeted!”

Risa smiled. “Ms. Sophia, that would be, ‘So right on target.’”

Burt laughed. “Ms. Sophia, please excuse Risa. Her teacherness kicks in wherever she goes,” he said. “In fact, she’ll probably tell me that there is no such word as ‘teacherness’!

“Si!” said Risa. “No lo existe!”

They all laughed. Even Xi had a big smile.

“Robin and I made everyone a Thanksgiving bottle," said Pearl, "so you can write at least two things you’re thankful for, then we’ll share with each other, okay? We can take about ten minutes to do this, while Ms. Risa plays the piano.”

Risa went to the baby grand and started playing and singing Christmas hymns and more. Pearl felt the stirring and the joy of the sweet Holy Spirit within her.

Oh, we thank You, Jesus! thought Pearl. Please help us all to realize that you love us and that You are restoring the United States of America—Genesis 50:20 and Romans 8:28! Jesus, You are LORD of all!

As Risa played, and many of the group sang along quietly while they wrote and decorated their bottles, Pearl thought about many good things God had done. She felt the Presence of the LORD grow stronger, as she wrote several things she was thankful for.

Her mother came in with Robert, and pulled his desk close to the table, with their chairs together. She whispered to him as he wrote with his marker pens.

Pearl heard a sniff, and glanced at Xi. She’s crying! Jesus, I know You are helping her realize Your plans for her are so good, like You say in Jeremiah 29-something.

She reached over and touched Xi.

Xi smiled through her tears. Thank you! she mouthed to Pearl.

The LORD is healing her heart, for sure! Pearl thought, and nodded. Even Robert seems at peace! Truly, LORD, Your Spirit is here!

She smiled at her mother, who was rubbing Robert's back while he worked. She looked up and smiled back at her daughter.

We thank You King Jesus, our Prince of Peace, Pearl thought. Thank You for bringing us together, and for all the good things You have done. I love You, and can’t wait to see what You do next!
