What is True Treasure?--Part I

by Tonja Taylor
12/15/2021 / Christian Living

"For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on the earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be His own special treasure."--Deut. 7:6, NLT

The LORD showed me this in April, 2009, about true treasureInsight on True Treasure, April 25, 2009: Proverbs 24:3,4 states: "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."

Knowledge--not just information acquired and mentally understood, but an experience of someone or something--is what this verse says causes the rooms of a house to be filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

I believe there are at least three reasons that knowledge affects this:

(1) When we have the knowledge that it is GOD Who gives us every good thing, we have a thankful heart, and thankfulness (the main part of being content "in whatsoever state we are") causes us to see what we have been given as treasure, and especially to notice those blessings we've been given that others may not have;and

(2) When we have experienced the sweet loving Presence of the LORD, we realize that He is the true Treasure. Although Father God loves to bless us with material things and enjoyable events in our lives, and especially the precious relationships with those we love, when we experience the almost tangible nearness of our Daddy God, the Word, with Whom we are one, we value Him far above all else and exult that, if His Spirit is with us, then our house is filled with the supreme Treasure of all--Jesus! and

(3)The more we gain knowledge of God--which is primarily by reading and listening to and studying and thinking about His Word--the more we realize how it is the Bread of Life; it is our Life Instruction Book; it is the perfect will of God; it is Jesus, the Word, made "flesh" to us. It is Him--His main Voice to us. Yes, He does speak in dreams and in our minds and to our spirits, for we who have been born again by receiving Him into our hearts are literally one spirit with Him (He is the Father of spirits ), but the main way He speaks to us to order and direct our lives, to comfort and cleanse and encourage and heal us, is by His Word. His Word is His eternal Covenant with us. He cannot lie. All He says to us in His book--the ultimate and permanent, infallible and unchanging Truth--is our greatest Treasure!

You may ask how I can say that His Spirit is the greatest Treasure and then His Word is the greatest Treasure? There is no contradiction; His Word and His Spirit are One. (I John 1:1 and I John 1:14, I John 4:13-15). Open the Word Who is God and read it for yourself. Invite His sweet Spirit to teach you, for He is the Teacher (Matt. 23:9-11, John 13:14), the Wisdom of the ages (Prov. 2:4-6, Isa. 45:21)!

And, if you have not yet met the Teacher, Christ Jesus--Who is The Teacher, but also Savior, Who died on the cross to save you and all mankind from our sins (Psm. 65:5, 68:19, 79:9, 89:26; Isa. 43:1, 43:11; John 3:16,17; II Pet 3:17,18; )--then please read this!

Why wait another moment? Why struggle another day on your own, when you can have the One Who knows all things helping you with everything? You can never have too many true friends, and JESUS is the truest Friend of all, Who will never leave you nor forsake you (Deut. 31:8, Heb. 13:5), amen!

GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Read it for yourself: "The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning."--Psalm 25:14.

Hallelujah!

The True Treasure is "the sweet, satisfying companionship of the LORD"! And because of the shed blood of Jesus, that relationship--the ultimate, the most sublime of all possible for a mortal--is ours! We don't have to wait till Heaven to communicate with our darling Daddy God; we can love on Him and be loved now!

There is nothing tangible, touchable, that can possibly satisfy like a deep and true friendship. Human friendships, especially marriages, can be delightful in a phenomenal sense.

But even a covenant marriage cannot match the astounding joy and sheer freedom of the soul that the supreme relationship with the God of all Heaven provides; He is King of kings and LORD of lords, and is yet humble, gentle, tender, fiercely protective, intensely interested, and totally dedicated to His own! There is no love like the love of God!

Want to know more about how to engage in that kind of heavenly passion? Ask the LORD (which is the basis of prayer: asking God to help us) to reveal Himself to you, and read His love story (what the Bible is to you) more than ever.

Ask Him to help you understand it. If you have accepted Jesus His Son into your heart, then you have the Holy Spirit inside you to help you understand. The Bible is a living book, the unchangeable, infallible rock of the Word, the ultimate Standard of Truth.

As you grow in your faith and study the Word, the Holy Spirit Who is God will reveal more and more to you. Think about what He means and say the verses out loud; there is great power in the spoken Word of God.

Also, ask Him to show you things to be thankful for and thank Him often out loud. Also ask Him guide you to praise and worship music that truly honors Him--for worship in music moves Him deeply, and He lives in our praise--not the music, but the praise, whether it is us just speaking "Thank You, God, You are so good," or singing along with all our hearts to music inspired by His sweet Spirit of Grace.

(If you have not yet made the LORD Jesus Christ your Savior, your Provider, your Protector, your Dragon-Slayer (to deliver you from trouble), your very best lifelong Friend and Companion, do it now! Just ask Him to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart and be your LORD and Savior. He will!)
