The Right Kind of Fear

by Tonja Taylor
3/22/2022 / Christian Living

There are two kinds of fear: Fear of the LORD, and fear of anything and anyone else.

The first one is good, the second one a trap, a drain, a destruction.

We were never supposed to experience fear, for fear is always of the enemy!

Fear entered into the human heart when Adam and Eve sinned. When they chose to believe the enemy instead of God, they started running away from God instead of to Him.

However, fear of the LORD is good! It means to respect, reverence, honor, and obey the LORD.

12“Do not call conspiracy everything these people regard as conspiracy. Do not fear what they fear; do not live in dread. 13 The LORD of Hosts is the One you shall regard as holy. Only He should be feared; only He should be dreaded. --Isaiah 8:12-13, Berean Study Bible

It is worded a bit differently in the NET Bible:
You must recognize the authority of the LORD who commands armies. He is the one you must respect; he is the one you must fear.--Isaiah 8:13, NET Bible

We don't dread our loving Father God, Who loves us so sacrificially and eternally that He gave Jesus, His only Son, to die the most horrible, shameful death on the cross to forgive and cleanse us of all our sins--so we can live a Heavenly life on earth, then spend eternity in the ultimate Heaven with Him after our bodies die; have eternal life in the presence of Jesus (John 3:15-17; John 14:3; Revelation 19:9)

…9 Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning. 10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 11For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.…--Proverbs 9:9-11, Berean Study Bible

When we love the LORD, we trust Him and keep His Word. Just like any good parent creates rules and standards for his or her children, how much more does our Father God Who is Love (I John 4:8) have rules and standards for our best, the best of others with whom we interact, and for His glory? It’s a win-win!

"The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”--John 14:21, NASB

It is wisdom to love, and honor, and reverence, and obey the LORD!

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.—Proverbs 9:10, NASB

The LORD leads us by faith—respecting, honoring, obeying, and trusting in Him.

As I have done many times through the years, we can cry out to the LORD to help us recognize, reject, and renounce all agreements with fear; to rid it from our lives, for fear is never sent by God!

When I was 19, in my first year of college, and very oppressed—and feeling very condemned, because I knew that I knew that I knew I was a true born-again Believer in Christ, who’d made many mistakes—He revealed this verse to me as I opened His Word and asked Him for help: I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.--Psalm 34:4, AMPC

Hallelujah! Now, over 30 years later, and with much washing of the Word through reading, studying, speaking, and otherwise meditating on it; much repentance as the LORD revealed to me to change things in my life; much worship; many times of others praying for me, including ministers laying hands on me; and otherwise seeking to follow Christ, I have truly been delivered of many fears!

(He gives us wisdom, and warns us about things, because He loves us and is constantly monitoring our lives every moment, to keep us from harm and bring us to our very best lives in Him! Hallelujah! As He told me once years ago, “While you are sleeping, I am keeping you.”  Amen! That is certainly part of His faithfulness. What if the LORD and His holy angels went to sleep when we did? No way! God is forever “24/7” for us, amen!)

The LORD has helped me recognize and overcome much fear in my life. Hallelujah!

The enemy tries to control us by fear—mainly through lies.

However, you can break the power of those lies: Just say out loud, “Father God, I repent for agreeing in any way with any lie of the enemy—whether I’m aware of it or not. I renounce and break the power of those wrong agreements now, in the Name of Jesus. I ask Your forgiveness and cleansing in every are of my life where these lies had place. I ask You to restore to me all that has been stolen from me where I’ve agreed with the enemy in any way, and I receive it, in Jesus’ name, and give You all the glory and thanksgiving and praise! Hallelujah!”

Our power is mostly in our words—which is what God used to create the world! He created us in His image, and made us “speaking spirits”!

So we can also repent of and renounce every word we’ve spoken that was not of God, and declare “crop failure” on those wrong words and their seeds! Then, declare that every word we’ve spoken from God is still speaking, and bearing much fruit, in Jesus’ Name, amen!! Halellujah!

How great and good and awesome and forever helping us is our wonderful Father God, our Savior and LORD, Jesus Christ, and the amazing, all-knowing, ubiquitous Holy Spirit, Who is God on earth—the Spirit of Jesus living in our hearts! Glory to God forever!

Fear is a plant the LORD never plants, and He promises in Matthew 15:13 to help us work with Him to uproot them from our lives! Hallelujah! 13 But Jesus replied, “Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by its roots.Berean Study Bible

What happens when you uproot a plant? It dies! Yeah!

Dr. Caroline Leaf, in her book, Switch On Your Brain, declares that “we are not wired for

68 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people 69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, 70 as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, 71 that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;72 to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, 73 the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us 74 that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, 75in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.—Luke 1:68-73, ESV

God swore by a holy oath that we are delivered from our enemies, to serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness, all our lives! Glory Hallelujah!

The enemy craftily uses fear and condemnation (which is fear of not pleasing God, but which, as the LORD revealed to me one day, is false, of course! We already—and can only—please God by believing in His Son, Jesus and receiving Him as Savior and LORD, so that the pure blood of Christ Jesus covers us!

That alone is what makes us acceptable to God, Who is holy! He loves us and delights in us because we are His creation and then, when we receive Christ Jesus, become His children. But the only thing that makes us holy and righteous to serve Him without fear is the Covering of the Blood of the Lamb, the Savior Jesus Christ!)

When we get rid of fear (break the agreements with the lies of the enemy, who’s always trying to deceive, destroy, and hinder us from the plan and love of God!), we know the Truth (Jesus!). We are free to follow the LORD and rejoice in His goodness! We more deeply understand and experience His Love! Hallelujah!

We are free to allow God to flow through us, and enjoy the experience and fruits of the gifts He gives us; mostly to display His goodness and creativity and power to this needy world, amen!

6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.--II Timothy 1:6-7, Berean Study Bible

So, refuse and reject and renounce and repent of the carnal, demonic fear, and receive and rise in the faith—the trust and worship (joy, adoration, obedience, honor, respect)—of the LORD! You will enjoy your life so much more, and all the more as you draw closer to the LORD and realize how very much He loves you, and how He’s always been there for you, even when you weren’t aware of it or didn’t feel like it!

Great is His goodness, faithfulness, mercy, and grace forever! Blessed be the LORD, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.---Psalm 23:6, ESV

Now go forth and conquer, victorious child of Truth!
