Go with God

by Ken Barnes
3/23/2022 / Christian Living

One day Moses said to his brother-in-law, Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, “We are on our way to the place the Lord promised us, for he said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised wonderful blessings for Israel!”
(Numbers 10:29 NLT)

All the promises of God are always received by acting upon your faith.

Hobab, a Midianite, was descended through Keturah, Abraham's wife after Sarah died.  He was the son of Abraham's body but not his faith.  This is evident because he had no desire to go to the promised land (Numbers 8:30 NLT).

Hobab was content to help Moses as a guide when they stayed at Mt. Sinai, close to home.  When they prepared to leave Mt. Sinai, his willingness to serve took a definite hit.  We generally must go somewhere to fulfill the promises of God.  God's blessings and promises are rarely fulfilled if we are not willing to move outside of our comfort zone.  Moving outside of our comfort zone often means letting go of our familiar surroundings, family, and friends.  The founder of Youth With A Mission, Loren Cunningham, often said, "go is two-thirds of God."

The Great Commission, Matthew 28:16-20, is a commandment, not a suggestion to go.  It may be across your neighborhood, city, country, or world.  For Hobab to go with Israel toward the promised land would take an act of faith to conceive and then receive the wonderful blessing promised to him by Moses.

Faith always has feet.  It is an action word.  As Moses invited Hobad to go to the promised land, is God calling you to a less comfortable or secure place to receive your inheritance?  Go with God and his blessing.
