Pray According to the Word of God

“We need to pray according to the will of God. God’s word is God’s will. Therefore, we need to believe and pray according to the word of God.”

1 John 5:14
Now, this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

“I'm so sorry to hear about your difficulties,” I replied to Sue after reading her e-mail requesting prayer about certain problems she was facing. She was gravely ill and in hospital waiting for test results. She had been given a blood transfusion for low haemoglobin. The test results were being held up due to Covid. Adding to her dilemma, Sue had also suffered the loss of a close aunt in recent weeks. She was depressed and angry. Why was all this happening to her? Why was she facing such suffering? Why didn’t God answer her prayers? In her email, Sue said that she had been advised to embrace her pain. She said she was told that suffering is from God; that it was his will for her to endure loss, pain and bad health. She was told to bear her cross. Therefore, Sue willingly accepted her plight. But she was fatigued and disillusioned with life.

In my reply I wrote, “Unfortunately, Sue, many people believe that all natural suffering comes from God. It doesn't. The word of God tells us that the thief comes to kill steal and destroy but Jesus came to bring us abundant life. The thief is the devil. He is the destroyer but abundant life comes from Jesus. However, Jesus did instruct us to bear our crosses as he bore his cross. However, the suffering of the cross that Jesus bore had nothing to do with illness or natural suffering. The day Jesus carried his cross he had been rejected by everyone. The suffering he was enduring – his cross – was because he had sacrificed everything to do God’s will. Jesus was suffering for the sake of righteousness. Jesus was suffering pain and loss because he bore the weight of our sin, not because he was ill in body.

“The meaning of bearing our cross implies suffering for righteousness, as Jesus did. When we are persecuted for following Jesus, we bear the cross. When we suffer injustice for adhering to Godly morals, we bear the cross. However, when we face natural disaster, loss or illness we need to put on the whole armour of God, as it says in God’s word, with courage and determination and so take a stand against the wiles of the Destroyer,” I wrote in my e-mail reply to Sue.

Then I added, “Our comfort comes from knowing that God’s word says that our Father will never leave us or forsake us. By the Holy Spirit, Jesus is with you in the thick of every trial. Nothing will separate you from his love. In the Bible, we read that the trials we face are for our good. They produce patience and endurance in us. It also says that, if we pray and seek Jesus in faith, we will be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. He is our healer, provider and peace”

In closing, I reminded Sue that we need to pray according to the will of God. God’s word is God’s will. Therefore, we need to believe and pray according to the word of God. We need to get into the word of God and get the word of God into us so that we will pray according to his will.

God-tracking is praying according to God’s will. God’s word is God’s will.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

“And I take you at your word when it says that Jesus has come to give me abundant life not pain and suffering.”

“Dear Lord, I realise now that bearing my cross has to do with suffering injustice and suffering for the sake of righteousness, as Jesus did. I realise that this cross also refers to me being willing to surrender everything for the sake of following Jesus. Bearing my cross in not suffering illness or natural disaster. Thank you for your word. I take you at your word when it says that by your wounds we are healed. I take you at your word when it says that you will meet my needs according to your riches in Jesus. And I take you at your word when it says that Jesus has come to give me abundant life, not pain and suffering. Amen!”s
