Restitution Foundation

Although the name "Restitution" may not be used but it can be clearly stated that "restoring back" predated the time that the Lord gave the instructions to the Jews in the days of Moses, the Prophet of God. Note that it has been explained in previous article how people lived and walked with God blamelessly.

Jacob, after his birth, he became a new man. Do you know he encountered the Lord on the way?

After he supplanted his brother twice, he ran for his dear life to live with Laban, his uncle in Syria. During his staying and service there, he had great experiences. At the point of his departure from Syria to go back home, he lamented to prove his righteousness thus,
"[38]“For twenty years I have been with you, caring for your flocks. In all that time your sheep and goats never miscarried. In all those years I never used a single ram of yours for food.
[39]If any were attacked and killed by wild animals, I never showed you the carcass and asked you to reduce the count of your flock. No, I took the loss myself! You made me pay for every stolen animal, whether it was taken in broad daylight or in the dark of night." Genesis 31.
This is the norm in living in righteousness. Note that Jacob did this after he had been converted unto righteousness of God. How could he achieve this? It is by the help of the Holy Spirit although it was not expressly stated but it was glaring he followed God's instructions.

For the teeming population of His people, at a point in time, the Lord documented how He wanted them to bring about restoration of losses incurred by people through another person. The instructions run like these:
Exodus 22:1,4-7
[1]“If someone steals an ox or sheep and then kills or sells it, the thief must pay back five oxen for each ox stolen, and four sheep for each sheep stolen.
[4]If someone steals an ox or a donkey or a sheep and it is found in the thief’s possession, then the thief must pay double the value of the stolen animal.
[5]“If an animal is grazing in a field or vineyard and the owner lets it stray into someone else’s field to graze, then the animal’s owner must pay compensation from the best of his own grain or grapes.
[6]“If you are burning thornbushes and the fire gets out of control and spreads into another person’s field, destroying the sheaves or the uncut grain or the whole crop, the one who started the fire must pay for the lost crop.
[7]“Suppose someone leaves money or goods with a neighbor for safekeeping, and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house. If the thief is caught, the compensation is double the value of what was stolen."

At a time that matters most in his journey of life, Jacob's righteousness spoke for him and he was bold like a lion to tell Laban, who chased him hotly when he flee to his father's house,
"[36]Then Jacob became very angry, and he challenged Laban. “What’s my crime?” he demanded. “What have I done wrong to make you chase after me as though I were a criminal?
[37]You have rummaged through everything I own. Now show me what you found that belongs to you! Set it out here in front of us, before our relatives, for all to see. Let them judge between us!" Genesis 31.
The righteous will always be bold. Beloved, can you see that Righteousness speaks for a man? Returning or restoring things to the right person who had suffered a loss through you will prove your righteousness by the time you are to be judged.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
