WORRY? Who, Me?

"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you." (1Peter 5:6-7)

Every one of us worries at times, or at least has in the past, but God’s Word teaches that we don’t have to if we would only put all of our trust in Him and His Provision and deliverance.

Some people can’t stop worrying, but wish they could, some wear worry like a badge of honor; thinking that it makes them a good spouse, parent or friend, as if worrying is a sign of love and caring. However, those who understand the difference between concern and worry, and see worry as the impossible negative it really is and gradually learn to lift their worries up to Him.

God’s Word teaches that we are to do this, for our own good, so we don’t stress ourselves needlessly, as all the worry in the world CANNOT change a single thing….

We worry because we lack the ability to do something about our problem, but worrying only makes matters worse. It’s been said that worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair all day and expecting to get somewhere.

The thing is God can handle our problems. All we have to do is put it all in His Hands; to trust Him, for He is bigger than any human problem, no matter how complicated and hopeless. In fact, literally taking our hands and lifting upward, with the idea of all our troubles resting upon them, while praying, “Lord I lift all my troubles and concerns up to YOUR Capable Hands,” can help remove the weight off of our shoulders. God’s Word has a lot to say about worry and how wonderful it can be when we learn to trust Him with all of our problems and concerns:

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:25-34)

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1Peter 5:6-7)

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:6-7)

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? (Luke 12:22-24)

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;” (Psalm 138:8a)
