GOD'S REWARD SYSTEM

by linzy bruno
4/11/2023 / Bible Studies

God appears to have a system of reward for those who are committed to serving Him. First comes the abiding in the precept of gain through loss, and then the reward. This principle can be readily detected in a plethora of Scriptures which align seamlessly with this theme. Far and away the most exceptional means of interpreting the Bible is to let the Bible interpret itself, as the following study reveals:

GOD’S PRECEPT OF GAINING THROUGH LOSING

--Paul declared, “To die is gain”—

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)

--Jesus Declared, Give up your life to save it—

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:25-26)

--There is reward for crucifying the flesh, which is spiritual growth--

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:22-24)

God’s reward system does indeed appear to be the theme for this principle. Other aspects of this are, “the loss of earthly treasures secures that of the spirit” and “life comes from death.”

VERSES ON REWARDS

Colossians 3:23-24—God rewards the work and service of His people, as these things require the giving of oneself:

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Galatians 6:9—Paul highlights God’s encouragement to press onward toward the promise:

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Matthew 25:21—The reward of promotion that comes through sacrifice:

His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

James 1:12—Staying devoted through trials requires a sacrificial and unfeigned heart that leads to the crown of life; a milestone of a first heavenly reward:

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

James 4:10--God exalts the humble:

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Proverbs 22:4—The wages for humility are riches honor and life:

“By humility and the fear of the Lord
Are riches and honor and life.”

Philippians 3:14—Pressing onward toward the prize:

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Romans 6:23 & 1Peter 5:6 —God exalts the humble in His due time

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Furthermore, through Paul’s description in Romans 6:23, we see the relationship between losing and gaining is further aligned with the giving of our lives unto salvation; revealing God’s perfection in consistency, which further verifies Truth, as well as His Perfect fairness of judgment.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, (1Peter 5:6)

Moreover, here Peter brings in the vital principle of waiting on God’s Perfect Timing; an important component, which is crucial for the full fruition of the principle of gain through loss.

Also worth noting is that God’s perfect judgment will come to full fruition on the Day of Judgment and His rewards will come in accordance with each one’s works, as Jesus has Proclaimed in the Book of Revelation:

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12)
