I AM

Thought:  Two words that have an immortal meaning.  In Ex. 3:13,14 “But Moses asked, if I go to the people of Israel and tell them that their fathers God has sent me, they will ask, ‘which God are you talking about?’  What shall I tell them? “The SOVEREIGN GOD”, was the reply.  Just say ‘I AM’ has sent me.

God has no beginning and no ending; He is who He says He is.  These two words are used deceptively by those who have perverted it’s meaning so they can elevate themselves in the place of God.  You hear them from preachers, Hollywood personalities, New Agers and those that have embraced relativism  allowing them to create their own truth and morality.

In chapter 8 of John’s gospel when Jesus speaks, he uses these words 17 times revealing that He is the great I AM, sovereign God.  John’s book in the New Testament is full of the great I AM’s.  Following is just a few:

“THE BREAD OF LIFE” John 8:24, “LIGHT OF THE WORLD” 8:12, “GATE FOR THE SHEEP” 10:7, “GOOD SHEPHERD” 10:11-14, “POWER TO RAISE THE DEAD” 11:25, “WAY, TRUTH AND LIFE” 14:6, “TRUE VINE” John 15:1, and many more.  In the Old Testament we see references to Christ, the great I AM: “REDEEMER” Job 19:25, “CREATOR” Isa. 40:28, “HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL” Isa. 5:19, “WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR, THE MIGHTY GOD” Isa. 9:6, “KING OF NATIONS” Jer. 10:6.

Col. 1:16,17 Identifies Him as the Creator who made everything in Heaven and Earth.  On the last day of creation, he called it all good.  He had the power to raise Himself from the dead, John 10:18.  It’s amazing how many times Jesus used those two words while He was speaking.  We are all New Testament believers if we have invited Christ into our lives.  We live in the second Covenant that Christ fulfilled with his sacrifice on the cross for the worlds sin.  Isaiah 52:14,15 described the punishment Jesus went through for you and me.  “For they shall see and understand what they had not been told before.  They shall see my Servant beaten and bloodied, so disfigured one would scarcely know it was a person standing there.  So shall he cleanse many nations.”

Jesus took our sins upon Himself and paid the price of our redemption through His suffering and death.  Three days later He defeated death and rose again to give believers the hope of the same resurrection like Himself, with a new eternal, glorified body.  So many stumble over the simplicity of this free gift of forgiveness and eternal life.  Are you ready to accept Christ into your life if you have never done so.  There are no guarantees of our tomorrows as everything is falling into place for His soon return to call His children up to where He is to live with Him forever in our new home he has prepared for us.

Prayer: Father God, your arms are wide open to welcome all those who believe in who you are and what you accomplished on the cross.  You’re coming soon and we will see you as you are face to face.  What a wonderful hope we have for that day to come.  Amen

Verse:  Jesus’ prayer for you and me:  John 17:20-23 “I am not praying for these alone but also for the future believers who will come to me because of the testimony of these.  My prayer for all of them is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as you and I are, Father –that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me.  I have given them the glory you gave me—the glorious unity of being one, as we are.  I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one—so that the world will know you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me.”
