Why Do You Hear Men's Words?

by Olawale Ogunsola
5/29/2023 / Christian Living

At the time of writing this piece, I remember the story of a man who went to his place of work. Before he came back home, there was a rift between his wife and another woman in the house.

When this man arrived at the house, his wife called him and told him the story of the rift which ensued between her and the other woman.

This man did not inquire from anyone before he joined his wife to rekindle the fire of the feud.

Do you know what?
The man died the following morning. Any wisdom in that?

The Holy Scriptures instruct,
"1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:" James.

Did the man in the story above act according to these instructions? Did he pay a supreme penalty for it? God knows better.

It is glaring that he acted contrary to what the verse advised.

Do you know that men tell lies against other people? They do this for different reasons which is not the focus of this write-up.
Words of men have put people in trouble, especially those who never bother to find out the truth.

Why did King Saul want to kill David?
In the words of David:
"24:9 And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?" 1 Samuel.

Beloved, do you believe everything you are told? Do you trust in words of people? Let me point out three effects of believing in the words of the people:

1. It will pollute your heart. There will spring up in your heart, a root of bitterness. This will not be to your advantage.

2. The door to say rash things will be opened. So long as your heart has been captured, anything bad can proceed from your mouth. This can create negative circumstances that will affect you and others near or far.

3. You can act wrongly. There is nothing a man with a poisoned heart cannot do. King Saul who was inhabited by an evil spirit relied on people's reports about David and he wanted to kill him, an innocent young man.

To God be the glory that he failed in his evil pursuit.

Now, the ball is in your court, are you interested in all you hear people say to believe them? Do you find out the truth to know the true position of things? Heed the counsel of the Scriptures, be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord. God bless you.

Note:
All Scriptures quoted are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.
