P.O.W.E.R.* Girl IV - Ch. 14 - Princess Entrepreneur

by Tonja Taylor

 “Wow, the Valentine banquet was neat!” said Pearl. She sighed. “I wish I’d been good enough to play my harp, but maybe for Resurrection Day, at least!”

“Precious, no worries,” said her mother. “You have just started learning, so keep on practicing, and I bet you’ll be able to at least accompany the singers for Resurrection Day service, or another service if you would rather do that. I know Pastor Randy will be eager to have you share your new skill.”

“Yes ma’am,” said Pearl. “I’m glad we all got to go, including Xi and Ms. Sophia.”

“Yes, the LORD was working,” said her mother, “and I do think the youth pastor’s illustration with the dove that he bought with cash and let out of the cage to demonstrate the freedom Jesus bought for us on the cross touched Xi’s heart.”

“Yes, and that was neat how the dove flew up and was cooing during the service,” said Pearl. “It was like she was listening to him preach.”

“Perhaps!” her mother replied. “Knowing God’s love is what the whole world needs.”

“Yes, Queen Mother!” said Pearl, picking up a heart-shaped ornament for Jesus’ Christmas Tree. “I’m excited that eight people already want to order our kits!” She traced the heart with her finger. “At first, I wanted to make each ornament the shape of each country, but I think it’s better this way, as a heart—‘cause He created and loves every person in every country!

Her mother nodded and smiled. “See how God is working, my little entrepreneur? He gave you a great idea, and you listened and took action with it. That is faith!”

“What does ‘entrepreneur’ mean—oh, I need to get the dictionary, right?” Or use my phone! she thought.

Her mother nodded. “Yes, get the book. Anyone can search for something on the internet, but it’s good to know how to use the old-fashioned dictionary.” She smiled. “Besides, a book is never offline!”

They both laughed, and Pearl found the word. “Oh, it’s someone who starts a business; who finds a need and creates a product or service to fill that need,” said Pearl. So that’s what I’m doing with Jesus’ Christmas Tree ornament kit! She thought. Neat, Daddy God!

“So the LORD gave you a witty idea,” her mother said, “and now you are using it to provoke others to good works, like the Bible says—to get them to pray for people to be saved in all these countries, along with bringing in income. That is an idea God gave you!”

Burt and Rob came in, and wiped their boots on the mat. “It’s snowing! I wanna go play in it!” said Robert.

Pearl looked out the window! “Neat! It must have just started!” Thank You, Jesus! This is great! she thought.

“Rob, wait till a while, till there’s enough to play in,” said his mother. “Come help us with the Jesus’ Tree project for art class.”

“What can he do?” blurted Pearl. This is my project! she thought, and sighed. But maybe it will help him be better!

Her mother looked at her, and raised her eyebrows.

OK, Jesus, please forgive me for my bad attitude, she thought, trying to smile at her mother. How can Rob help?

Then she had an idea. Thank You, Jesus! She waved him over, and said, “Rob, you’re really good at drawing. Do you want to make a poster to help us tell people about our kits?”

He smiled really big. “Yeah!” He zipped over and went to the bin where they kept the markers. “I need paper!” he said.

“What else do you say, Rob?” his mother said. “Here’s some paper to make a poster.”

“Pleeeeeeeez!” he said.

Burt laughed. “I’ll leave you guys to create,” he said. “I have horses to take care of. I’m going to give them extra hay to eat, and put more in their stalls, to help keep out the cold.” He put on a bigger coat, and went outside.

“I’ll check on Sorpresa after lunch,” said Pearl. “She’s never seen snow before!”

“I’ll draw her!” said Robert, uncapping a marker.

“Rob, you can draw her later,” said his mother. “Do what Pearl asked you.”

“I’ll draw the baby horse carrying a basket of heart ornmens!” he said, and started to outline.

Ornaments,” corrected Pearl. “Three beats, with a ‘t’ on the end.”

Ornaments!” repeated Rob, and kept drawing.

“You’d make a good teacher,” said her mother, smiling.

“Thanks,” said Pearl, making notes. “I want to include the poem. How can we do that?”

“Hmmm,” said her mother. “Remember, Pearl? We decided to make it a bookmark, and then people can use it when they read—preferably, the Bible,” she said, "or any book. It will help them remember to pray for God to save people in all these countries.”

“Neat!” Pearl said. “Yes! They can use the bookmark all year. Great idea, Queen Mother!” Elohim, You’re so awesome! thought Pearl.

“How many do we need to make?” asked Pearl.

“Good question, Princess,” said her mother. “We will need one for every kit, but why don’t we include three in every kit, so that those who buy them will have one to keep, and two to share?”

“Or, could we ask them how many they’d like when they order?” Pearl said.

“Yes…up to 10,” said her mother. “Good thinking, Pearl. That will help them be even more empowered, to have a choice of how many free bookmarks they give, and we’ll pray they will truly give one to everyone in their family that wants it, and they responsibly share the rest, as witnessing tools.”

“So how many should we print?” This is a little scary, but a lot exciting! thought Pearl.

“Let’s wait and see for now, although I think 100 to start with,” said her mother. “We’ll make an excellent copy in color, then take it to a good copy shop. Would you go get it for me, and you can read it to us, OK?” She watched Robert. “I know Rob will do a good job of drawing great pictures for the promo poster—right Rob?”

“Yep!” he said, holding up his picture. “See Sorpa?”

“SORPRESA!” said Pearl. Gee, do I have to help him with every word?! she thought. “Sorpresa means ‘surprise’ in Spanish,” she said.

“Pearl, thank you for being gracious,” Pearl’s mother said. “Now please go get the Jesus’ Christmas Tree poem, and then Rob can draw for it.”

“Yes ma’am,” Pearl said, and went to her room. I should not have been irritated, I guess, she thought. At least she didn’t embarrass me in front of Robert. Thank You for my gracious mother, LORD!

She brought the poem back, and said sweetly, “Hey Rob Rob, please listen and draw for me, as Jesus gives you pictures about His Christmas tree, OK?”

He gave her a thumbs up, and kept drawing horses.

Pearl read out loud:

JESUS' CHRISTMAS TREE

© 2012 by Tonja K. Taylor

If Jesus had a Christmas tree,
Each limb would touch eternity—

Its branches full of decoration
For each tribe and race and nation

The names of each engraved upon

An ornament; cherished and known

And crafted into each, and hidden,
Specifics of His missing children;

Each one of their faces
In the farthest of places

Touched by our prayers,
They’ll want Jesus there.

His tree is lush and full and tall,
Living, big enough for all

And everywhere, the graceful light
And shepherds’ staffs, red and white;

Upon the top, a shining star,
Of Israel, jewel of God’s heart;

The symbol with six pointed sides,
Where the King will soon abide;

Streaming from the star above
Cascades of ribbon, crimson love,

Precisely perched, the tiny doves
Seem to sing of those He loves.

God loves His children, every one;
To rescue them, He sent His Son

He sent LORD Jesus to redeem
His children, to restore their dream;

Through His ears we hear them sigh,
Through His eyes we see them cry,

They struggle to survive and cope,
But Jesus is their blessed hope.

For on that ancient Christmas tree--
The tree for all humanity—

He reached throughout eternity
To return them to His Family;

To live life more abundantly
In power, peace, and wholly free.

And now He’s made His wishes known:
For us to bring His children Home.

It’s up to you and up to me

To help Him with His Christmas tree.

As Pearl read her poem, Robert started crying.

“Oh, Sissie!” he said, wiping tears from his eyes. “That’s so good!”

He is so sweet when Jesus works through him! she thought. I wish I’d not been rude to him earlier!

He got another paper and started drawing.

Pearl watched. More tears fell from his eyes.  She looked at her mom, who also was gazing in wonder at how the Lord was healing his little heart. Her mom nodded, and Pearl could see her eyes were watering too.

“Thank You, Jesus!” she said, feeling her heart warm. “Thank you, Rob—"

He held up the new picture. “See? Jesus’ Christmas Tree for the poster!”

It was a big brown cross, with a star on top, and a heart in the middle, with ‘JESUS’ written in the heart.

“Very good, Son!” said their mother. She patted his shoulder.

“Wow, Rob Rob,” said Pearl. “This is perfect for the promo poster!”

“What’s promo?” he asked.

“It means telling people about something. Short for ‘promotion’,” said Pearl.

“We need to promo Jesus to everybody!” he said.

“Right on!” said their mother. “You are both evangelists, and God’s using you in creative ways to reach the world for Christ!”

Let it be, dear Jesus! thought Pearl, looking out at the snow, now falling quickly and thickly, and covering the land with lovely whiteness. This is fun, and You are the coolest!
