HOW SPECIAL!

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

 

Maybe I was a bit hyper-spiritual compared to my peers, but I could sense God’s Eye watching over me, even as a child. Therefore, what I’m about to disclose comes strictly by personal experience and revelation, although the above verse does appear to support my claims..

As mentioned, for some unknown reason (perhaps it was my silliness, but not exclusively) I was generally hated throughout my growing-.up years. I had very few friends in school. Most of my classmates were too busy making fun of me to get to know me. It seemed the other kids, even my teachers and most surprisingly many of all my own family members either had a negative opinion of me, or were basically oblivious to my significance.

This is only to prelude what I’m about to reveal, and is not intended as a cry of complaint. I actually barely noticed as a child that all this was going on; it took the grown-up me to see it retrospectively.

This is all to say that when one of God’s children is on their own in the world, with more adversaries than allies, particularly in the case of minors, He puts an extra hedge of protection around me and amazing revelations come to light:

#1—I was so comfortable under God’s Wing, I barely noticed the negative response of others; I was too busy being the carefree child He made me to be; my adversaries just could not get the better of me or harm me in any meaningful or lasting way.

#2—God made His Presence known to me, by giving me a sense of something special; not that I was something special, but that what He was doing for me was special, very special. I knew He wasn’t favoring me over others, yet I definitely felt favored.

#3—I didn’t know it then, but in retrospect that’s why I had so much unexplainable joy, (I just thought I was silly and extra childlike) which aided in triggering much of the harassment from the many bullies in my school, especially my classmates. Their ridicule and laughter was contagious; it quickly spread throughout the classroom. They laughed at my innocent spirit, but I held on tight to God, nonetheless. God provided me amazing emotional strength and maturity a bit above the expected for my age, because of my unique need for it.

I’m not going to pretend that these things didn’t hurt me at all, but it is truly remarkable how much comfort I was showered with from above. I learned a great deal about the Agape Love of my Father in Heaven because of these things and remain in a state of ‘awe’ to this day. God really does put an extra hedge of protection around those who are most vulnerable and provides angelic protection as well. And He is a Fortress for all who trust in HIM. And He saves those who put their faith in Him over and over again; in accordance with our needs:

“The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” (2Samuel 22:3-4)

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19)

“You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” (Isaiah 43:2)
