What is Beautiful?

by Tonja Taylor

…29 “Many daughters have done noble things, but you surpass them all!” 30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. 31 Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her at the gates.…Proverbs 31:29-31, Berean Standard Bible

What is "beautiful"?

Where is the ‘standard’? Where is the ‘line’?  Who decides?

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” says the world.

The truest answer is, The LORD our God!

"Beauty" seems to focus on women, overall. One minister, when asked if women should wear makeup, wisely said, “If they need it.”  So, the “need” is a perception by the woman, or the viewer(s).

People change, and “people” cannot be pleased. Jesus knew that, and He did not trust the heart of any man.

The LORD never looks on the appearance, but on the heart (King David, etc.)

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.”--I Samuel 16:7, Berean Standard Bible

Seeing wrong images, especially repeatedly, change the brain to expect a certain thing, and can cause the body  to respond. Even animals can be "programmed" to expect what is not reality. Part of that is because our brains literally cannot tell the difference between fantasy and reality! God gave us imagination, and expects us to guard and properly program it with visions and expectations that honor Him and expand His Kingdom, to His glory.

The enemy and the world, obviously, has been working from the fall in the Garden to pervert what God said, with the intent to be to deceive and trap humans into doing and thinking and speaking things against God, Who is purity; light; everything good, with no darkness at all!

Many models and beautiful women (according to worldly “standards”) are miserable, and constantly in fear of having to maintain their looks, and/or never feeling good enough, etc.

When the enemy deceived Eve in the Garden, fear entered, and the root of it is performance pressure, “never good enough,” or having a fleeting moment of “victory” and then fear of having to do more, do better, stay “number 1”.

Personally, I do not believe there is competition in Heaven! Competition creates fear and other pressure, and none of that is ever from God! I disdain “beauty pageants,” cause they don’t really promote women, but debase them, overall.  I especially don't care for baby “beauty” contests, cause it’s really about the parents, especially the insecure and/or prideful mothers, competing!

It was never supposed to be this way.

Many years ago, I was wishing aloud that I looked different, and the Holy Spirit immediately said to me in my heart, "All flesh is as grass!"

Yes, the outward (bodily, physical) part of us is perishing day by day, but the inside of us--the heart, the spirit, the real us, which is eternal, and one with Jesus our Savior, once we repent and receive Him--is made new day by day. Hallelujah!

So what is true beauty for a woman?

The Bible is the only true Source of Truth, from what "beauty" really is:

…4 but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight. 5 For this is how the holy  women of the past adorned themselves. They put their hope in God and were submissive to their husbands, --I Peter 3:4-5, Berean Standard Bible

What is true beauty for all mankind? It is God, Who is Love (I John 4:8).

13 Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful.…("Putting on the New Self", Colossians 3:13-15, Berean Standard Bible)

When we show love, we are displaying to the world the beauty of God. Hallelujah!
