'KARMA'

by linzy bruno
11/14/2023 / Christian Living

This idea that everything we do will bring a consequential reaction, whether positive or negative, is actually a rip-off of God's Justice...

The concept of ‘karma’ originated with Hinduism. However, those who know God know instinctively, that although their definition sounds right, something is very wrong with this term:

“Karma is often understood as a system of cause and effect, where every action creates an equal and opposite reaction. Positive actions, known as good karma or positive karma, are believed to lead to positive outcomes or rewards, while negative actions, known as bad karma or negative karma, are believed to lead to negative outcomes or consequences.

Karma is otherwise coined by the phrase, “What goes around comes around,” which modernizes the term to make it more readily adapted by the Western world. However, this idea that we are supposed to believe originated with the worship of pagan gods, was actually stolen from God’s Word. There are several passages in the Book of Psalms that reflect this principle of reaping what we sow. If we do good, we will see good, if we do wickedly, we will see the negative repercussions of that behavior, even if not right away, then eventually.

The wicked are depicted reaping greatly in the aftermath of their evil ways, but God’s Wrath always follows sooner or later:

See Psalm 37:1-25

That’s because God allows the wicked, at times, to become quite comfortable believing they will not suffer any negative consequences or punishments for their actions. And then without warning, their whole world crumbles and descends into chaos and despair. And this includes both individuals, as well as nations, as God pulls the rug out from under them, so to speak:

“He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down to his own crown.”  (Psalm 7:15-16)

“The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; in the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.” (Psalm 9:15)

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17)

“Upon the wicked He will rain coals; fire and brimstone and a burning wind; shall be the portion of their cup.” (Psalm 11:6)

But, naturally, this principle works both ways:

“When He avenges blood, He remembers them; He does not forget the cry of the humble.” (Psalm 9:12)

And, moreover, we also see in the Psalms, the prayers and hopes of the righteous, that justice and punishment would come to their enemies:

“The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.” (Psalm 10:2)

“May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things.” (Psalm 11:3)

And of course, although void of a timeline, as He does test His children, He WILL answer the prayers of the righteous and avenge their blood:

“How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?” (Psalm 13:1)

“For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.” (Psalm 11:7)

“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, says the LORD: “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” (Psalm 12:5)

CONCLUSION:

The term 'karma' may seem harmless, however, upon studying the origin and comparing that to what the Bible has to say, this concept was clearly stolen from God's Word. The definition sounds righteous, but the idea is to bring deception, that bad things come as consequence; having nothing to do with God. It leaves Him and His Righteousness out of the equation, which is where the deception comes in. Bad things happen due to the consequence or punishment that God has allowed or caused, not due to the way the wind blows or the poison a bad deed puts into the atmosphere.

Furthermore, God is The Perfect Judge. Those who do evil will pay the price sooner or later, in this life? Perhaps. Within a time period we would expect? Not necessarily. But without question, the wicked will be punished for all eternity in the afterlife. “What goes around comes around,” is just another depiction of this clear and present fact of life. But, God said it first, then false pagan followers stole from God’s Word, (as everything originated in His Word.) Therefore, we have the wisdom to discern ‘karma’ from the Truth of God’s Word. God didn’t need to use a word or catchy phrase, He spoke through the power of the Scriptures in all authority and might, and in all fairness and perfect justice.

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord, Therefore if your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:19-22)
