CHRISTMAS MAGIC

by linzy bruno
11/17/2023 / Christian Living

Did you ever wonder what the unbelieving world would say if asked "Why do you celebrate a holiday that you have no faith in? Because, how can you celebrate without a cause? It doesn't make any sense."

Hmmmmmm....

There’s only one true way to celebrate Christmas and that’s by making it all about Jesus, not the tree, the presents, the aromas, or even the feast. But the secular world has turned one of the most meaningful days on the Christian calendar into an entire season of pleasure for the senses in order to create a sense of ‘’magic’ that lasts as long as possible; wreaths and lights still gracing many porches and front doors all the way until Valentine's Day.

It’s not only the materialism that ruins the meaning, for just as hollow are the heightened cravings for pleasure seeking. The sense of sight is thrilled by the lights, the tree, and all the rest of the decorations, even the food, and of course there's taste. Our sense of hearing is captivated with the music, and the hours of football on TV. Our sense of smell is also tickled, as well as our sense of touch and sight over all the beautifully wrapped gifts, not our sense of touch in opening them.

But all of this hoopla is meaningless and fleeting and costs more than most people can really afford. The media, even the news, heavily fill the airways with “the excitement of the holidays” along with the constant use of the word ‘magic’ feeds the soul, but leaves the spirit hungry for the satisfaction that only our Lord Jesus can provide!

But, believers do not have to live in accordance with the world’s idea of what Christmas is all about. We can make it all about Jesus if we really crave to be fed with satisfaction and lasting joy. Furthermore, we will never be sorry we chose to trade the magic of Christmas for the meaning of Christmas.

This ‘holiday’ as it’s called, was ordained by God for gratitude, friends and family coming together in the joy of our Savior and His Coming to the earth to save a lost world. And God did not command holidays. He commanded feasts. Moreover, in His Word there is no mention of any command to celebrate the day of Jesus’ Birth. This is not to say it’s wrong to do that, but the carnal world uses it as an excuse to spend, wrap themselves in materialism for comfort, and joy and seek fleshy pleasures like no other time of the year.

The world only loves Christmas for the thrill of fleshy pleasures, spending money and satisfying the senses to bring a sense of ‘magic,’ rather than joy in the Lord, the miracle of His Birth, gratitude for what He did for us, and the profound pleasures of the Spirit.
