JUDGING GOD

by linzy bruno

Christians do not set out to judge GOD! But, inadvertently it still happens through the questioning of the unfairness of life.

A wise Christian Professor, Frank Turek has recently stated: God has preordained for us to abide in free will. He doesn't want robots, but people to love and worship Him. He puts restrictions on Satan’s activities, but every person is born with free will and God has to honor that. If He interfered with every evil action before it occurred, that would require His overriding the free will of man and would make Him a liar as well. (A loose paraphrase)

When believers become angered at wickedness, that is not against God because we can’t help but take notice of the evil. Being upset about evil is righteous anger, but when we start questioning and saying: “How could God allow this to happen! It’s so unfair!” We are, in essence, judging Him.

We know that God is far above us and that we cannot comprehend His Ways. Only He is Omniscient; perfectly all-knowing. All God asks of us is to trust in Him to know what He is doing. It’s not our job to understand or question why someone dies at the hand of an evil man, why He didn’t heal someone’s cancer and so on.

In our mere mortal condition, none of us can even expect to understand why God allows the things He allows. We know He has a plan that we cannot know, but sometimes this is hard for us to accept, but it’s in our best interest to accept what God has Ordained.

The truth is, our only job regarding the judging of fairness is to trust in the One who knows all. This is not to say we never question anything, and God does permit righteous anger. But that anger is not directed at Him; it is directed at the perpetrator of the wicked deed. It’s when we shake our fist at Him and abide in the attitude that He should have prevented the deed that we run into this condition of judging God. When this happens to us we need to do a quick turn-around and point our finger at ourselves for inappropriate judgment:

“Oh, the depths of the riches of both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?” “Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?” For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:33-36)

Moreover, when unfairness hits close to home, we can trust God to make things right:

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
