FIGHTING AGAINST GOD

by linzy bruno
12/28/2023 / Bible Studies

When believers insist on persisting in their own way, that in essence, equates to fighting against Him. Moreover, when we fight against God, we fight against ourselves. Only God knows what’s best for us. Only He has the power to know all things, even before they happen, therefore, only He has the ability to steer us in the direction that will either bring about the best case scenario, or one that will ultimately lead us toward deeper wisdom and knowledge. (Only our God is Omniscient: all knowing, Omnipotent: all powerful and Omnipresent: everywhere at one time.)

When we fight against God, we forgo all the wonder ways He is there for us. And only God is Sovereign; He has the ultimate say on everything that happens, which—we also forgo if we live in defiance of it:

“The LORD has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.” (Proverbs 16:4)

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:10)

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.” (Psalm 33:6-7)

Furthermore, we forgo His Protection & strength

God wants us to abide in His will all the days of our lives, because that’s the only way we can have protection on the earth from the various potential dangers, undue problems and tragedies, not to mention all of those who would try to cause harm to us or our family members. He is our safe haven and our strength; our very present help in times of trouble:

You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2)

“He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” Isaiah 40:29)

“keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,” (Psalm 17:8)

And we also forgo His Will for our lives, which is the best case scenario we can have in this world:

“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:17)

And we also forgo His Wisdom & Guidance

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

And we also forgo trusting in the only One who is worthy of our confidence & trust

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:6-8)

“I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” (Psalm 91:2)

And we also forgo salvation & the personality upgrades He has in store for us—

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2Corinthians 5:17)

not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior” (Titus 3:5-6)

And from the parable of the four soils; speaking of the seed, the Words of our Lord illustrate that if we let Him change us, He will save us and enable us to grow into all that He has for us--

“Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” (Luke 8:14-15)

And we also forgo His Favor

“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,” (Psalm 17:8)

And we also forgo salvation, bearing fruit & pleasing HIM!

“For this reason we also, since that day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;” (Colossians 1:9-10)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22-25)

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
