PEACE, LOVE, HOPE IN THE NEW YEAR

Thought:  Thousands are on a quest to seek out these three attributes of peace, love and hope in a world that is in a self-destructive mode.  Fear and anxieties grip the hearts of so many as they turn to alcohol and drugs to find peace and meaning in life.  Suicides are at the highest numbers in the last couple of years with young and old taking their own life.  Let’s talk about PEACE.  How can we find that ellusive peace that will last?  The first step is to know the peace giver on a personal level.

PEACE:  John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives.  So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Col. 3:15 “Let the peace of heart that comes from Christ be always present in your hearts and lives. For this is your responsibility and privilege as members of his body.  And always be thankful.

Phill. 4:6-8 “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.  If you do this you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.  His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.

LOVE:  God is love.  I John 4:16 “We know how much God loves us because we have felt his love and because we believe him when he tells us he loves us dearly.  God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him.”

Rom. 5:8,9 “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.  And since by his blood he did all this for us as sinners, how much more will he do for us now that he has declared us not guilty?”

God’s command to his children.  John 13:34, “And so I am giving a new command to you now—love each other just as much as I love you.”

I John 3:1 “See how much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children—think of it—and we really are!”

How should we live our lives as we put into practice this God given love for one another?  Eph. 4:31,32” Stop being mean, bad tempered and angry.  Quarreling, harsh words, and dislike of others should have no place in your lives.  Instead, be kind to each other, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you because you belong to Christ.”

I John 3:9 “The person who has been born into God’s family does not make a practice of sinning, for this new life has been born into him and controls him—he has been born again.”

I John 4:7 “Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are children of God and that they are getting to know him better.”

HOPE:  When we become a part of God’s family through the rebirth process, we not only have the peace of God but the hope that something better awaits us.  For the children of God this is called the blessed hope.  We put on new spiritual bodies that will never die and move into our new homes that Jesus has prepared for us.  This life as we know it will never end but move onto another spiritual realm that is so spectacular that even the apostle Paul was not allowed to describe it.  This is the future for all those who have placed their faith and trust in Christ Jesus.  Rom. 8:23 “And we Christians, although we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, also groan to be released from pain and suffering.  We too, wait anxiously for that day when God will give us our full rights as his children, including new bodies he has promised us—bodies that will never be sick again and will never die.”

Prayer:  Father God, thank you for the promise that we will be with you forever in our new home that you have prepared for us.  Amen

Verse:  I Peter 1:2b May God bless you richly and grant you increasing freedom from all anxiety and fear.
