STUDY ISAIAH 55:6

by linzy bruno

“Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6)

The Church Age had a beginning and it will ultimately come to an abrupt and ominous end. And, although the Bible refers to this only as the Age of Grace, the Church Age is an equally descript name for the time in which we are now living, which began with the coming of the Holy Spirit upon those who were in the Upper Room (Acts 1:13-14). The people began speaking in tongues (Acts 2:1-4) and the church was formed as a direct result. (Acts 2:42-47)

And the Church Age will come to an end when Jesus Comes in the Rapture (1Thessalonians 4:13-18, 1Corinthians 15:51-57 & Revelation 4:1)

And there are other ‘proofs’ of this biblical fact found in various passages of Scripture, some quite subtle and inconspicuous. For example, God said He will not always strive with man in Genesis 6:3—

“And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

We might call this a hint to the not so straight forward. At first glance, this verse seems only to refer to the length of days man had on the earth at that time. A paraphrase could be: God will not allow the present Age to go on forever. In fact, He has even put a limit on the lifespan of man on the earth.

But there is more that is alluded to here. The not as obvious aspect to the verse is a change in dispensations, when God will no longer be so readily available to His people. Therefore, the message here parallels the topic verse.

It was only due to original sin that God limited the length of days for mankind, which begs the question, would God have implemented ages at all had Adam and Eve obeyed? If Adam and Eve had not sinned, death would not have come into the picture, and heaven and earth would have continued to be openly connected and flowing together. Could that also imply that God would have not seen it necessary to divide the ages into varying dispensations?--

Dispensation: "a distinctive arrangement or period of history that forms the framework through which God relates to mankind." (Wikipedia)

Through this definition, we see that biblically speaking 'Age' and 'dispensation' are synonymous.

God’s Words to Moses in this verse further confirm Isaiah 55:6, which implies God will not always be readily found, as He is in this Present Age.

Moreover, inasmuch as Satan is the prince of this world, The Lord has ordained His Day; a DAY that He will pour out His Wrath on an unbelieving and rebellious world, while believers are whisked away to Heaven:

This is a temporary life and not our real home, not only because of our mortality, but the earth itself, for God will make a new heaven and earth at the time Jesus comes to rule on earth. (Revelation 21:1) Moreover, 1Corinthians describes our transformation at the Rapture–1Corinthians 15:51-57

Moreover, Jesus has marked the end of the Age of Law, so that the Age of Grace could then begin.

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” (Matthew 5:17)

Of course, God’s Grace has always been available to His People, but the current age is the Age of Grace. And the Age of Grace, or the Church Age began during the period from the aforementioned verses in the Book of Acts until Jesus’ Return in the Rapture.

PRESENT AGE—

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,” (Titus 2:11-12)

However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.” (1Corinthians 2:6)

“Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” (Luke 12:56)

“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches ut in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.” (1Timothy 6:17)

AGES TO COME--

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” (2Peter 3:10)

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: (Malachi 4:5)

that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:17)

CROSSOVER VERSES--

"who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time--houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions--and in the age to come, eternal life." (Mark 10:30)

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18)

“who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present age, according to the will of our God and Father,” (Galatians 1:4)
