Shattered or Shalom?

by Tonja Taylor

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. - Isaiah 43:18-20, NIV

Humans tend to focus on the negative, and repeat them (Ask me how I know), and the enemy helps that wrong attitude as much as he can, of course. Such junk is usually a distraction, and destruction--of peace, creativity, productivity, and more.

However, as true Believers in the only true God and Savior, Jesus Christ the soon-returning King, the LORD can help us learn to recalibrate to positivity.

The LORD Jesus came and died to give us Zoe life--Shalom--where there is no curse, only blessing, and nothing missing, nothing broken; all as our dear Father originally intended it

Unfortunately, in this curse-filled world, most people have to learn to be positive!

For me, it's been quite a process through the decades--to learn to distinguish between worldly, carnal thinking (even in the church!), and true Biblical thinking, but I can tell you that it is so worth it, and it pleases God.  After all, it is Him that commands us to be thankful and to rejoice; not for His sake, but for ours', and for those around us.

In addition, you'll like yourself better!

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:21, NIV

God is a positive God, thank goodness. After all, it is His amazing Grace extended toward us all, that provided Jesus Christ the only true Savior, Who died for us when we were still sinners, so we could be born again and have eternal life with Him in Heaven--and peace and joy and love and freedom and victory and more, on earth!

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. - Romans 5:8-9, KJV

So, do you (like I used to do) want to spend your time, energy, creativity, etc., focused on the (dead) past, or do you want to go forward?

Trust me, there have been so many roots from the past that kept pulling me back and strangling me, that it was almost overwhelming. However, the faithful, all-knowing, eternal God of Covenant, my Father Yahweh and HIs Son, the LORD Jesus Christ, helped me through His Holy Spirit of Truth to recognize and sever those wrong roots (sometimes, root-balls!). With repentance, forgiveness, worship, prayers of myself and others, and/or speaking the Word over myself, the LORD has helped me to overcome the negatives and focus on Him!

The main way I've done so through the years is to take the written Word, and read it, speak it, write it out, memorize it, sing it, sign it....meditate it!

The Word of God truly transforms our lives, by washing the junk of worldly thinking from our souls, and injecting the Living Water of the Word, to help us think like we were always meant to think.

Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds, so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. - Hebrews 9:13-14, NLT

Hallelujah!

Truly no one can ever live the true Christian life without the Spirit of God and the Word (Who will ALWAYS agree, by the way!) helping us do so!i

The LORD's Plan for us is Shalom--wholeness.

He will never stop working in our lives, as long as we want Him to, and His goal for us is to realize that, only in Him are we complete.

But that is everything!

Call on Him, and He will help you to be a more permanently positive person!

‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. 26 May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace. -Numbers 6:24-26, NLT
