Can't Help Falling

by PamFord Davis
1/19/2024 / Devotionals

Ice is not nice!

Fortunately, here in Northeast Louisiana we don’t deal with ice often. We did have dangerous icy conditions in our recent Arctic blast. Temperatures finally reached above freezing and we ran a few errands. Walking on ice was scary when entering a grocery store and pharmacy.

The Deep South is not equipped for severe winter weather. Northeast States do prepare but ice still causes problems.

Early one morning in Mycenae, NY I walked home from a close by best friend’s house. Half way home, I slipped on ice; fell alongside a busy highway and sprained my back. I managed to walk the remainder of the way in pain and Mom quickly put me to bed.

As careful as we try to be, sometimes we can’t help falling.

Elvis fans might remember that he most often closed his live concerts with the song ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.’ That fall is commendable.

“Love is patient, love is kind.
Love does not envy,
is not boastful, is not conceited,
does not act improperly,
is not selfish, is not provoked,
and does not keep a record of wrongs.
Love finds no joy in unrighteousness
but rejoices in the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends.
But as for prophecies,
they will come to an end;
as for languages, they will cease;
as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
For we know in part,
and we prophesy in part.
But when the perfect comes,
the partial will come to an end (1 Corinthians 13:1-10 HCSB).”

Good things do not all come to an end.

“Now these three remain:
faith, hope, and love.
But the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13 HCSB).”
