Freed

It’s easy for us to get wrapped up in our own problems.

Do you?

Joseph, son of Jacob, was in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. There, he befriended two of the other prisoners. Each man had a prophetic dream and God gifted Joseph to interpret the hidden meanings. One would be released and return to serve the Pharaoh as cupbearer. The other, Pharaoh’s baker, would be executed. (Genesis 40:1-22)

Joseph had one request. He asked the cupbearer to speak to the Pharaoh on his behalf.

“Only keep me in mind when it goes well for you, and please do me a kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison. For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon (Genesis 40:14-15 NASB).”

Joseph hoped to be freed soon.

“Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him (Genesis 40:23 NASB).”

Two long years passed…

Pharaoh then needed interpretation of his own dreams. (Genesis 41:1-8)

Finally, the cupbearer remembered Joseph.

“Now a Hebrew youth was there with us, a servant of the captain of the bodyguard, and we told him the dreams, and he interpreted our dreams for us. For each man he interpreted according to his own dream (Genesis 41:12 NASB).”

Joseph was freed to interpret for Pharaoh.

Have you been freed?

“Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. Now the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free (John 8:34-35 NASB).”
