Roots And Fruits (Part 1)

by Olawale Ogunsola
6/27/2024 / Christian Apologetics

"[3]He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper." Psalms 1.

To God be the glory Who gave us the Holy Scriptures to navigate the ocean of life successfully. In the holy Scriptures, mankind is compared with so many things to ensure that he understands what the true position of things is or should be.

One such comparison is contained in the opening quote for this piece. A man here is likened to a tree planted near an unfailing source of water where he could flourish without any hitch forever.

Two things are closely connected with a fruit tree, the roots and the fruits. Generally speaking, any tree without a root cannot survive naturally. It is the sun that will scorch it and will cease to exist. It is like a seed that falls on a rock where there is no earth or moisture, it has no life to live. A non-existing tree cannot be fruitful.

The Blessed man, as contained in Psalms one, is planted as a tree by a river side where his roots will be able to access sufficient water unhindered. His leaves will not wither, and he will bear fruits.

Note that the deeper the roots are into the Earth the better for the tree and its fruits.

Beloved, do you know that you are not expected by the Lord your God to live without being fruitful? Do you bear fruits for the Lord your God? Do you know that it will be impossible for you to bear fruits if you have not been well-rooted in the word of God? The deeper you have taken root in it, the better and saver for you and your fruitfulness. Take root downwards to bear fruits upwards. Go deep in the word of God. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
