Two Poems:
Working in a day of sweat
brings manly
satisfaction, the smell
of wood cuts, falling trees
leaning in the wind
and not so many years ago
my father, bless his departed
soul, said "Sonyou
spend so much time in
the bush, you're
going to turn into a tree."
*
The oil pipeline is a tear
upon the land, winding
beside roadside
ravines, pastures and swamp
around sloughs, across
hills. Once upon a
wide open sky, wagon trains
created their own footprints
of civilization.
