Peter's Obedience

Luke 5:1-11: Jesus teaching from Peter's boat
After teaching from Peter's boat, Jesus instructs Peter to take it out on the lake to catch fish. Peter's response is, "Master, we were hard at work all night and caught nothing at all; but if you say so, I will let down the nets." (vs. 5, NEB) Notice he addresses Jesus as "Master," denoting respect, yet secretly Peter doubts Jesus knows what he is talking about. After all, Jesus is a teacher, not a fisherman. Yet he obeys.
Peter is rewarded for his obedience and not punished for his doubt. The miraculous catch of fish opens Peter's eyes to who Jesus truly is as well as what Peter was; a sinner. His tone changes as he reverently addresses Jesus as "Lord."
After Peter's confession of Jesus' Lordship and his own unworthiness, Jesus invites him to follow him in the catching of men for God's kingdom. Immediately Peter begins his journey toward his God-ordained destiny.
The author wishes to enjoy every year God gives her on this earth.
