Time With God Is Essential To Answered Prayer

Having a quiet time and being in the Lord's presence is very important for our spiritual growth because it allows the Lord to speak to us.

When we spend quality time with our Heavenly Father He imparts strength, wisdom and understanding into every situation that confronts us.

Most of the problems we sometimes face would be a lot different if we were to take time to rest from our hectic lifestyle and seek His face.

When we obey the Lord's command to "come aside" and allow our spirit, soul and body to de-stress, we wouldn't be distressed. He says in His Word in Jeremiah 33:3 that when we call unto Him He will answer us and tell us great and unsearchable things we do not know.

One of the best ways to pray is to remind God of what He said in His Word. Our prayers should therefore be rooted in God's Word. It is therefore very necessary to find scriptures that cover our case to remind God of His promises to us. (Isaiah 43:26).

For our prayers to be powerful and effective we should be men and women of the Word of God. God's Word is powerful, quick, active and sharper than any two edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12). We have a mighty spiritual weapon and we need to use it everyday!

Those who have been mighty in prayer have always been those who reminded God of his promises and His Word. Daniel, Moses, Solomon and Jehoshaphat are a few examples in the Bible that comes to mind.

Men of God such as Charles Finney, Dr Alex Whyte and Evan Roberts to name but a few had effective prayer life as a result of reminding God of His promises and His Word.

One of the most outstanding exponents of prayer was Charles Finney. He was known as the man who prayed down revivals. Whole cities were stirred through his powerful ministry.

He once preached at a night meeting in an irreligious congregation, after spending a day in the woods in prayer and fasting. The sermon was accompanied by such divine power that the whole congregation, except one man, fell prostrate upon the floor and voiced their agony under the conviction of sin, in such loud cries that Finney was forced to stop.

In a meeting in New York after speaking for 15 minutes, the power of God suddenly fell on him and 400 people in the congregation fell off their seats onto the floor under the power of God and all were saved they had been sinners.

As born again Spirit-filled Christians, we should pray powerful prayers and see results like our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ did.

The Amplified Bible says in James 5:16 that: "The earnest, (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]".

Jesus fellowshipped with His Heavenly Father until he knew exactly what the Father would say and do - He knew God's heart and his ways.

Let us remember to have close relationship with our Heavenly Father as Jesus did when he was on this earth for lack of communion with our Heavenly Father can make us ineffective and hinder our Christian walk.

Through prayer and time in His Word, we can also develop a close relationship with our Heavenly Father. We can learn to walk with him, commune with Him, and become one with Him.

Then Jesus said, "Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it you". (John 16:23).

Now that is power and a key to live an overcoming and victorious Christian life!
