Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit hangs in the branches
of a tree I once ignored
as I passed it many times before,
but this time it is different,
and I think I see my fantasy,
Forbidden Fruit.

Forbidden Fruit is beautiful
and something that is hard to resist,
for its supple flesh glistens in the light,
and I long to taste the sweet nectar
of something that is not allowed,
Forbidden Fruit.

Forbidden Fruit, the Devil's charm;
it calls to me and leads me on,
saying, "Take one bite and you will see
that you were meant to taste of me
and know the pleasure of my touch",
Forbidden Fruit.

Forbidden Fruit, once sweet,
turns sour when the truth is really known,
and then it causes me to gag,
for as I bite into the bitter seeds,
my mouth becomes so dry,
Forbidden Fruit.

Forbidden Fruit, no longer pure,
but tainted, vile and full of hate,
its ugly head is lifted up,
and finally my eyes are opened
to the things it has in store,
Forbidden Fruit.
