I have known the pain of loss and great disappointments too
I have known the depths of hell in depressionʼs darkened hues

I have known the heartache borne of losing my closest friends
I have known the chill of death when it claimed a parentʼs hand

I have known the grief that comes when facing the wasted years
I have known their heartache sore and tasted the bitter tears

As life has passed I have borne many heartaches in my time
I have also known the touch from the Master sweet and kind

I know that He has always been so closely by my side
To lift my head and comfort me with love that never dies

He came to me in time of need when I was beaten low
Consumed with sin no peace with in no comfort in my soul

He met me there in that dark place and guided me to light
He held my hand and helped me stand He opened up my sight

Now I know about His grace and the gift He sent to us
It started in a lowly crib and ended on the cross
