When God Slays...

by Shannon Heiden
1/08/2009 / Devotionals

Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.
Job 13:15

Beautiful One, What do you do when God interrupts your life and takes you down a completely different path; one you didn't plan for and one that looks completely different than you expected? What do you do when God slays you?

Life...
It's such a simple four letter word, but life is anything but simple? Life is amazing and wonderous, there are those moments that we are afforded when it just takes our breath away. And then, life can be hard and difficult, most of the time it is unfair and more times than not we are left wondering why we are here and we're confused by the many curve balls life has thrown at us..

Isn't it funny that God tells us that in order to truly live- we must die; to gain life means to lose the one we have, no, God is not talking about dying physically or despising the life we have been given, but what He is telling us is; the way up- is down and if we want to be the greatest, become the least, the first shall be the last and when we stand it is on our knees.

How many know that saying this- is one thing, actually doing it and completing the process is quite another?

How many times have you attempted to step out, pregnant with Gods purpose and a plan for your life, only to collide head on with rejection and catastrophe and come face to face with failure and be fed the bread of defeat? The plan was aborted, the purpose was dulled and you are left in a state of confusion because all of hell has broke loose and you are left with your head in your hands, heart -broken and with a tear stained face you muddle the words "why?"

Beautiful One, walking with the Lord can and does lead to confusing times. His ways are not like ours, if you have walked with the Lord for any length of time you quickly realize this, you may not recognize or embrace it but after you keep living- God always finds a way to get His message across to us.

Don't we all know the times when we have sought God and He came through, we believed, we recieved and our hearts were strengthened, our faith grew and we were filled with hope and expectancy; don't we all know what it is to walk a little taller because our God was on our side and we got the victory?

But then- don't we also know the times where the battle has gone on for far too long, there are no victory marches- no great proclamations, no gaining ground, you might have even lost some, there was nothing left of you but the shell of a tired, wearied, wounded soldier?

The faith you once shouted about has now turned into a whisper-or maybe just a thought that never escapes your lips...

The boldness you once knew has turned to cowardice, the faithful has fallen and become the fearful and you wonder if you will ever be the same again.

I have news for you- YOU WONT....

When life happens and has taken a turn and maybe for the worse- Hold On, because if the Lord has layed you low, it is only because He is going to raise you up and when He does;it will be even higher than where you were before.

Our trials are meant to be our teachers, they can either define and refine us or they can destroy us, the choice is ours.

The truth is; that just because there is pain involved doesn't mean the plans have changed, but that the pain has a purpose and was part of the plan all along.

We actually learn more about Gods love, faithfulness and character in our struggles and sufferings than in our victories and successes.
For we wont know true victory until we have something to victor over....

Somewhere in my own life as I'm sure you can relate, I too ate the bread of adversity and somewhere after eating it enough- I stopped asking "why," and just learned to trust; that if He was faithful back there and he brought me out over here, He too will do it again and there is a lesson to be learned in everything,
- nothing just happens...

Beautiful One, although God is not the author of evil, HE will use it, in other words; God will use the enemy, people and circumstances to push us into a greater dimension, one that we can only attain -through the way we have been taken...

How many times have doors been slammed in your face, how many times have people rejected and overlooked you, how many injustices and abuses have you endured, how many times have you just been so close, yet you just can't seem to get the breakthrough?

Don't you realize that all the "No's" in life are ordered as well and they really are a "YES" from God? He only needs to open one door at your appointed time but in order to push and pull you into your promise, God, in His mercy actually has to protect you from being distracted by other people and from opportunity's life will present.

Many times, He will slay your thoughts, ideas and plans, He will slay your words, attitudes and ponderings; He will slay those ways in you that take you places He doesn't want you to go to- Oh, how many times will he slay relationships and connections to people He wants to move us away from? Some slayings are easier than others but when you think of the word "slay" you know that there is death involved somewhere.

There are times when He himself will make you to lie down, and sometimes He will bury you, because He knows; "that only when a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies- can it then spring up and bud into the life it was created for," -a life that will grow and produce and touch others for the Kingdom of God. John 12:24

And through it all- We need to trust Him....

Beautiful One, when we endure hardship as a good soldier, when faced with trials, temptations and tears, there lies before us a choice- "will we hold on to our integrity or will we faint in the day of adversity?"

...And if we faint in the day of adversity- "how great is our strength?"
